Will bonded pairs never like a stuffed animal since they have each other?

The (stuffed) dog groomed my buns, he’s chilled with them in the carrier, sits in their play area, and “eats” with them… no reaction. Doggy is feeling unwanted. Then I tried letting them meet a koala, a bigger dog, a bear… nothing.

Some rabbits will attach to stuffed animals. Others won’t. I am not sure on bonded pairs. I just know that neither of mine ever did anything to a stuffed animal other than sniff it when I first put it in the pen. After that, it was completely ignored.

 Both Jack and Vivian will lie with BB (a toy bunny that I have had for different bunnies for ages – it is pretty gross though now as it has been sprayed and humped  - though Vivian likes to groom it often – pretty much every day).  It was first used for my bunny Bailey, then it was used as bunny buddy for Jack when Rucy passed away, then it was used as a stunt double bonding tool between Jack and Viv, and now Jack and Vivian will both cuddle with it, (separately or at the same time).  I know I have photos of both of them snuggling together with it, but I couldh’t find any doing a quick search, (I have lots of photos!).  Anyway, here is one with Jack snuggling, and another with Viv snuggling.  Though the gray thing next to Vivian is a big frozen water bottle covered in a blanket to help keep her cool on hot day, but they really do cuddle with the toy bunny often. 

Even before Jack got his scent all over with his lovely spraying and humping, , I did make an effort to make it smell like a bunny.  I brushed bunny fur and then I rubbed all the fur from the comb all over the toy. (on another toy, I cut a little hole in the head and stuff bunny fur from the comb in there). I even dropped the toy bunny’s bum in the litterbox and then brushed it off with a paper towel so that didn’t look gross. (I know, still gross, but I did that originally for Jack so he would hump it instead of chasing Viv around all the time.) But that trick seemed to really help convince both of them, that it was a bunny worth snuggling with. .

I forgot about the original toy buddy — wasn’t pretty, but Jack liked it. And notice the tuff of fur on the toy’s head? That was Bailey and Rucy’s fur mixed in as I was getting Jack ready to meet the gals.

I only used an animal for the bonding process and then removed it. You can leave it in if you want, as long as they’re not chewing on it or pulling out the stuffing.

Some rabbits are into stuffed animals and some aren’t. Otto never cared for them, but Hannah’s Stuffy came with her from her last home. Now Stuffy lives with both of them and they both groom him from time to time, and Hannah will carry him around the cage when she’s bored. They don’t really snuggle with him often, but he feels loved 😉
