Ok, so I’ve never had this issue before and I’m at a loss on how to change it. Or even if I can. Like maybe I should just give up until after she’s been fixed and try again. I’ve owned lots of bunnies and I’ve litter trained every single one of them. The most amount of time it’s ever taken is 1 or 2 weeks. But most of them get the idea in less time than that. Now, I have had a couple(my current older bun included) that I litter trained and then they suddenly got untrained because of hormones and I had to retrain after getting fixed. But I’ve never had an issue getting them to use a litter pan or box in the first place. Until now!!…. Somebody Help me… lol
This stubborn little girl is killin me. She’s about 13 to 14 weeks old. We brought her home about 4 weeks ago today. So I’ve been trying to litter train her for 4 weeks now. And it’s not working! She thinks her litter pan is a bed. She lays in it ALL THE TIME. Yes, she goes potty in it now but she also lays in it as well. I’ve tried giving her a couple different beds to lay in. And show her to lay in those and go potty in the other. But she still lays in the litter pan instead. And she still poops everywhere else too. Not just in the litter pan. She also pees in the beds I give her. So… if anyone knows something else I could try or if y’all think I should just give up until we’re able to get her fixed then let me know! When we got her, she was in a wire cage that had a drop pan. So she was used to going anywhere. Yes her litter pan is in a corner. And we actually started with one litter pan and then went to two and now we’re back to one. I’ve tried putting her hay inside the litter pan and right next to it.
We use the paper pellets as litter because they’re so absorbent.
This poor, stubborn girl always smells because she refuses to stop laying in the litter.
Do any of you know what we can do? Has anyone ever had a stubborn bun when it comes to litter training?
The only thing I know of, that I haven’t tried yet, is changing the type of litter. But I wouldn’t know what to change it to. Most of the other types either stink at absorbing or are another thing to add to the mix that I’m very allergic to. Like litter made from wood. I’m already super allergic to the hay. So I dont want to add wood litter to the mix.
PS. I’m severely allergic to pretty much everything but food! But I dont care.. I suffer for my fur babies.

I think all you can do now is try to set a good foundation for post-spay, but don’t expect much because it is all hormones at this point. So keep her hay in her litter box and keep it in areas you know she tends to go in the most. As for laying in it, my boys love laying in their litter boxes. It’s honestly their favorite place to hang, so that’s not a huge deal. I use wood stove pellets as litter because it absorbs great and doesn’t smell at all, I know you say you’re against it, but honestly I can’t see why. It’s made my litter cleanup half the stress it used to be. That’s about all I can suggest really.

Wood stove pellets? Are they made using wood? Because that would be my issue. I struggle with my allergies every day being an animal lover. They’re so bad. The last thing I need is to add more tree or grass related pet products if I can help it.
I mean.. I would definitely use it if I thought I could stand any more.

It’s made from compressed pine so yes, but it’s not particularly dusty. Could you wear a mask and gloves when handling the hay and litter? My husband has severe hay and dander allergies and whenever he has to take care of them he wears gloves and a mask.

I have both lol.. sometimes I can get my hubby to get their hay for me so I dont have to mess with it. last time, I had to do it myself because he wasn’t home and it was a bad idea! It had to be done though. We recently decided to get a big bale of hay instead of buying small bags. I didn’t realize just how much dust and particles go flying from one of those things. I thought I might be in severe trouble that day. I had to use my inhaler and I was so miserable after that.
But I’m the one that always cleans the litter pans. Since it’s just paper, I’ve been able to do it with no problems. If we switched though, I think I would have to try the protective gear or try and get hubby to start changing the litter instead of me doing it
