My little bunny Stu-Bob has been through a lot in the last week. Everything has been so positive the last few days with her because her wounds are improving, and I have been hearing that she has been doing much better. (She is still staying at the hospital — Sallys house)

Because I have been hearing that her wound is great and her fur is growing back, and she is eating really well, I have allowed myself to be so positive since StuBob went to stay there. It brought back all my confidence that we were going to get through this and she was going to be ok. Ive set up her little house just the way she likes it, and I havent been letting Rabz and Sparrow into it because now its Stus house, where she is supposed to come home to, and get better, and be with us for many more years.

But I got an email from Sally today saying that Stus wounds are great and everything, and shes a really happy little rabbit, but her nose infection is getting really bad and she cant breathe again, like she was when I first took her to the vet, and that Sally is really worried about it and is taking her back to the vet tomorrow. Im so scared its going to be bad news. Stu has been through so much and I have been assuring myself that now she is going to be fine, and its a good thing that we didnt euthanise her, and that it was fate that we could actually fix her that night so she could live many more years, and now she may have to be euthanised anyway. I wasnt prepared for this, we have been fighting for so long. Shes so happy, I dont know what to do. Shes not ready to give up. How can I do that to her?!  I just have to sit, and wait, and look at her empty cage. I wish she was home with me. Shes in the best place for her right now because Dr Sal knows everything about her condition, and can prescribe her own medication and look after her. She can stay there 6 months if she needs to, but the only thing thats kept me going this week is knowing that one day StuBob is going to come home.  Please keep your fingers crossed that Stu Bob is going to come home. Please.

Oh, StuBob, please get well soon. She is in very, very good hands and if the best can be done it will be. Just take it one day at a time and don’t project either the worst or the future years. Just hang in there and if she gets over this hump you will be seeing your sweet StuBob again very soon.
She knows you love her. We will send all our best healing vibes to her.

Katharine, take it one day at a time. Stu is in great care with someone who will notice the slightest change. She’s getting prompt vet care and that’s the best we all can do. As I said to you, be thankful for the fact that the care you’ve given her these last few weeks had her feeling good enough to act like a sprightly bunny! You should be proud of that.
                    Stay positive for Stu {{{VIBES}}}

I just got this email from the lady looking after her.

Hi Kath, Did not take bunny to vet but did ring her, have been flushing the abcess in cheek out but she is still having lots of trouble breathing. Will continue over weekend but if she is still having trouble on Monday I really think we will have to re think on whats best for her. She is eating but has not gained any thing more..I think this is because all her energy is fighting the infection.

Ring me tomorrow am and we will have a chat about what we should do.

I just got off the phone from Sally, she is flushing out Stus little nose every hour to get all the abscess puss out of there. Tess our vet had originally prescribed .5 flagyl tice a day which really cleared up her nose, but Sally has taken it down to .4ml once a day (she said it was too high to keep going for long before) and now the infection is coming back again. I am taking tomorrow night off work to go and visit her and Sally said we will see how she is and have the “nuts and bolts” conversation. Sally says this rabbit eats like a horse, and still binkies in her skinny little hairless body around the kitchen. She said “This rabbit really wants to LIVE! but she hates her nose being touched, and we have to flush it out every hour of the day, so it may be better for Stu to put her out of her misery. ”
Apparently her nose is slightly better today than yesterday so Im not even going to think about it until I see my little Stu and see how shes improving.
                                Fingers crossed.

Poor Stu. If she is binkying and eating… I wouldn’t put her down, but thats just me. She may not like her nose being touched, but she is enjoying everything else. Hopefully it clears up

Personally, I’d say that if she’s still eating and binkying, it wouldn’t make much sense to put her down unless she’s truly having a lot of pain.

I’ve been through this many times. Sometimes you just cannot know sometimes it’s very obvious.

It takes alot of strength to make the decision that it is time to go – it’s all a matter of a quality of life. It’s a discussion to have with the vet.

I think just because a rabbit is eating doesn’t mean that rabbit feels good…it’s a survival thing…I eat to survive. I think too you have to look at whether you can give her the care and care for your other rabbits as well. Can you realistically flush her nose every hour of the day? Probably not and it probably doesn’t feel good to her either.

There really is alot to consider when making this decision. You have to use your head not your heart sometimes.

I went through this the last year with my rabbits Maxine and Twizzler in the past year. Also Emmy, who had a dental abscess and she went downhill fast but that decision was made quickly when the dental vet called when she had her under anesthesia and I knew anyway that morning it was time since she was starting to breath through her mouth…never a good thing for a rabbit.

I know I made the right decisions in every case. Don’t feel guilty if you make the decision to let her go to the bridge – there’s nothing at all wrong with this and you should feel good that you have put her out of her suffering and made her whole again.

Strength vibes to you and continued healing vibes to Stu.

I went to see Stu Bob tonight. Sally wanted to have the “nuts and Bolts” conversation about what we were going to do next, but when I got there Stu had improved again, and although she dislikes having her nose flushed, she is in great spirits!!!!!!!!! Shes going to the vet Tuesday!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sallys not giving up on her yet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! She may be coming home yet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

She’s been to the vet a few times with Sally and they are not giving up yet… They said it could still go downhill, so we r just taking one day at a time…
