I found a stray bunny and I think it’s a full grown mixed breed but I thought what if it’s a developing flemish giant or similar? Because he/she has very large ears. Anyway, if he/she is developing I want to make sure I am feeding it appropriately versus an adult diet.

Can anyone tell what breed this is? And/or any way for a novice to tell if it’s full grown mixed vs developing giant?

Thanks in advance to everybunny for the help 🐰

            She’s beautiful!

I agree with those ears she could have some flemish in her. I’m not a breed expert but maybe some others will weigh in!

She’s gorgeous! I notice that she hasn’t got a very big dewlap, which is common in fully grown females of the large breeds. If she is from one of the really big breeds, then she’s probably still young.

How’s her behaviour? Does she mark territory with urine or poop, or does she hum or run circles around people? That may also give you a clue about her age.

I agree. She/He seems like a younger rabbit that still has some growing to do. Those rabbits very often have the look of needing to “grow into their ears” lol.
To me, it looks more finer-boned then I’d expect a Flemish to be. Even a young one.

It sort of has the colouration of American Sable (breed) but that’s not always an indicator of a breed. The colour can occur in other breeds too. The coat also reminds me somewhat of a black rabbit that has been exposed to the elements for a while. Or is just about to have a major moult. The fur can turn brownish colour before it molts…

It not common to find a purebred rabbit as stray, tbh. But it can happen.

I’d start weighing them and keeping record as it might help you work out their age in the future. ie, if they continue to grow and fill out, then that levels out, you can do a bit of an estimate of what age they are then.
