Well my son scared the bejeezus out of me (and poor Fiver as well, if the resulting thumping was any indication) when he banged on my bedroom window last night about 2 AM and yelled “What the hell is that??” pointing up to the sky.
I look out my window and I can see what looks like a spiraling contrail with something obviously burning/disintegrating high in the atmosphere leading it through the star-filled heavens. It was bitterly cold and clear and very evident this was not an object with any control over it’s trajectory. I had no idea (having seen lots of strange things up there over the years) what it was, but it looked like either a meteor burning up or perhaps (frighteningly) a plane breaking up and burning on the way down. (it was very reminiscent of the space shuttle disaster, when Comubia exploded over Texas)
Within an hour, we saw a SECOND one. Same thing, same direction, VERY weird.
It was not moving in a straight line, but going up and down and around, back and forth…not like your usual meteor.
Now I know there’s pieces of two satellites that collided on Feb 10 probably breaking up in the atmosphere. (article on it at the following link)
But… what we saw, upon further investigation, has been sighted since Jan 2-7!

We are both seriously freaked out. You have to wonder what it is and why it is not getting much press. Kind of doubt it’s meteors at this point and I’m thinking some kind of atmospheric testing or even missile launches we’re not supposed to know about. (Eielson AFB and Fort Wainwright are both very close)
We just got rid of the HAARP array that was down the road, which was an obnoxious scientific experiment that made life miserable while it was operating here. It is so irritating to think something else weird going on now. ![]()
My DH saw something like this too the other day – we live in Dallas. It was said to be a meteor.
Really? 0_o About what time of day (or night?)
And, I’m sorry to display my ignorance, but I’ve seen those abbreviations before…what’s a “DH”?
DH (Dear Husband) – he said it was about 10:00 a.m. – it was like a fire sparkler as best as I could understand from his description.
It must be an awfully bright object to be seen in daylight. 0_o I can’t imagine most meteors are that bright. The articles say it’s got to be the size of a basketball to make the sonic boom (which I think my son heard last night also, forgot to mention).
Hmm….very strange. Having wanted to be an astronomer when I was young, this stuff fascinates me. ^_^
Anyone else onboard see anything like this? Post! Post! ![]()
Aliens?
A few years back in a small nearby town, a bunch of residents seen some weird stuff in the sky and it got a huge amount of press and everyone was really freaked out.
I would get freaked out if I saw something like you described but, then again, I make a huge deal over everything.
lolz…Well, LPT, if they ARE aliens, then I wish they could teleport myself and the bunnies and the rest of the family to some nice, warm, sandy beach somewhere and put one of those little drinks with an umbrella in my hand, I could sure use it! ^_^
I think I read something about a rare ‘daytime comet’ which was visible sometime recently on Yahoo News. Was it green? I think I recall this article saying that it was green.
Weird! We had a meteor shower here recently ( I think December?) And their were tons of sitings, and stuff landed north of the city.
I’m all about conspiracy so I generally believe the gov’t is behind strange unexplainable sitings-probably testing equipment and such ![]()
It’s just commonplace to me, because I live in the middle of the continental U.S.’s largest airforce base. =x Looottss of strange stuff here..
Yeah, K&K I saw that meteor.. it was crazy! Just a HUGE ball of light and it made a loud “booming” noise as it fell. I was so freaked out, I didn’t have any clue what it was. Especially since I live to close to the airport, I was afraid it was an airplane.. it seemed so close! But soon enough it was all over the news haha.
aw man! I can’t believe I missed this! I’m going to be looking up in the sky for a while now.
I wonder if anyone got pics or vids of it
I know there was an article and video of the Texas fireball (try Googling those words, I’m sure they were in the title) but it doesn’t look like what we saw. There is a comet in Virgo right now, but I think that’s too low on our horizon here for us to see it.
Aha! K&K, fellow conspiratorialist! (is that a word?) Yah, I was thinking of calling George Noory or Art Bell or something…lol. Instead I just fired off an email to the gal who wrote the article in our paper..we’ll see what comes up. ^_^
It’s a good distraction from my latest troubles…hehehee.
Yes we have AFB nearby. ONe nite a light shot out and hit something. Someone who saw it asked an AFB person and he said it is top secret and it was exactly what you thought it was. Can’;t say anymore.
What you saw in Alaska sounds like UFO. I wouldn’t doubt aliens exist. The universe is just so huge and galaxies and stuff. I have seen weird moving lights like that in Calif too. INteresting.
Ugh – A comet in Virgo? I’m a Virgo, does this mean anything for me MM?
In last Sat paper here, there was an article about the current activity around Earth. Apparently we’re in some sort of cosmic rush hour. I’ve already recycled so I can’t give more facts. Be curious thing to have seen, but too freaky for me at the same time.
You know, MM, you were considering divine intervention this morning. Maybe it’s an angel sighting. I expect an Archangel like Michael might make a fire-y entrance.
Personally, I feel it is the height of arrogance to believe we’re the only living forms in the universe capable of intelligence and space travel. My question is, considering what kind of a first impression we make depending on where they may land, would aliens WANT to visit us? (Visitors, fish and aliens begin to stink after 3 days.)
I’m a Virgo too, Jerz…double Virgo in fact (oh noes!) so I am wondering if that may have any bearing on my latest difficulties. >.<
Well, Pam, I think if Michael (my fave arcangel, btw) were to show up, he might have been a bit more direct. Perhaps he was the one who pushed the hubby into the snowbank the other day so we’d have to make a different vet appointment. lolz…. (the family joke is that God likes to see him bounce, he has so many accidents)
I just hope it’s not space debris. The kind that falls on your house and levels it. Of course, that would be quicker and easier than the loads of garage sales I’m going to have to have this year, but still….
Nope, I’m not asking for more trouble. I have quite enough, thank you. >.<
Speaking of someone needing to have a garage sale…have you guys ever seen this European artists’ rendering of the low Earth orbit space junk we’ve got circling the globe? It boggles the mind…not only do we have to pollute our planet, but all the space directly around it??
