My rabbit is 3 years old and he was never really into chewing things, I could leave him in my room for hours and he’d never do anything. Recently he started chewing EVERYTHING (doors, skirting boards, books, clothes, cables etc.), he seems really hyper and he eats around 3 times more than usual. I’m getting quite worried, should I go to the vet or is he just bored?

It may be dental – it wouldn’t hurt to have his teeth checked.

The hyper and eating extra part makes me wonder about false pregnancy. Are you totally sure he is a he. Has he been neutered? Does he have visible testicles (balls)? In bunny’s they look like two bald lumps on either side of the slit.

Yes, he’s definitely a boy. Could he be just bored? I’m away in college from Monday til Friday, my parents mind him when I’m away but since they both work the bunny can’t be out of his cage all day every day unless I’m home… I bought him some toys but he doesn’t want to play, he only eats stuff he’s not supposed to and he knows well he’s not allowed. Would getting him neutered help?

Bored bunnies tend to be destructive so that may be the issue. Does he have constant access to hay?

You could try making him some toys like a treat bag: fill a paper bag with hay (preferably something other than what he normally eats. My buns love oat hay as a treat. You can also add treats like bunny safe dried flowers, dried papaya, pellets. Twist the bag closed and make holes in it. Or you can do the same idea and stuff it into a toilet paper tube.

Neutering sometimes calms down destructive behaviours, but it’s no guarantee.
