So my plan for the rabbit room is to have them all in matching condos and then put them all side by side against the back wall so they can all have a neighbour. Bindi has a cube condo and I need to make one for Stormy and Olivia. Stormy’s cage is pretty small; he seems content but I want him to have more room. I don’t have enough cubes to make a new cage rigth now so yesterday I just set up an x-pen to be the same size as Bindi’s (until I can buy more cubes) and put Stormy’s smaller cage inside it so he can hop in and out. He seemed to be okay with it at first, despite the fact that Olivia was freaking out having him so close to her. I had to put a sheet of cardboard between them. After spending the day in his new cage, at suppertime he was suffering from gas and didn’t want to eat or move. Thankfully, I was able to treat it here and he didn’t need to go to the vet but he was unwell for a couple of hours. I assumed this was stress from the new cage so I took the x-pen away and just put him back in his small cage.
I was leery to make him a new cage because he is extremely sensitive and I figured he would get stressed out but I still want him to have a bigger cage. I think what I will do for the next few days is give him the bigger cage for an hour or so per day just to ease him into it. I need him in a cube condo so I can re-work the rabbit room and have him and Bindi side by side before tackling another attempt at bonding.
Does anyone have any suggestions for making the change less stressful for him? I’ve changed Bindi’s cage several times and he couldn’t care less but Stormy gets stressed out easily (just like his mama!)
