I’m pretty sure I’ve picked up some sort of stomach virus, for the last 4 hours I’ve been unable to even hold down water. It’s 6am here now and Ophelia is jumping up on the bed and sitting on my chest for pets. Should I be petting her if I’m sick though?

I don’t know for sure, had to google it. Lately there appears to have been some findings to suggest that dogs can get infected by the same virus, novovirus, that causes the human “stomach flu”. That doesn’t mean rabbits can get it though. You should (well obviously!) wash your hands and probably not kiss her.

Poor you. Get better soon! Do you have anyone to take care of you and Olivia while this is going on?

My husband has the day off so he will be the soup maker hahah (hopefully I can start eating soon because I didn’t have much supper and now I’m STARVING lol). I was supposed to work today but that obviously won’t be happening! I haven’t had this in so long, I forgot how much it sucks!

Ophelia is being particularly cuddly with me this morning. I’m petting her with clean hands and trying not to breathe in her general direction. She’s all up in my face though XD

            Thanks bam!

This is only my own personal experience, but I was recently down with stomach flu. It was so bad I couldn’t keep anything down and had to be on rehydration fluids. During this period, my bun continued to give me nudges and kisses and I continued to pet her when I had the energy to (with clean hands of course). Bun turned out fine, my husband not so much :p

It’s funny, the times you least want them near you (for their safety or cleaning) that’s when they want the MOST attention. lol
get better soon BunNoob! And enjoy the cuddles while they last xD

Awww, that’s adorable! Not the messy business, but that she’s taking such good care of you. I’d safely bet that she knows that you feel unwell, and that she’s supporting you like this.
AFAIK there are barely any viruses which can make both humans and rabbits ill. These are some parasites, but these are adapted to multiple different hosts. So hug it out, and thank her for all her good care Get well soon!

                    Feel better soon!

In case you need a laugh, someone at work is telling us that adults are incapable of having stomach bugs, and that it’s always food poisoning and therefore our fault for being sick. So shame on you for eating that week-old shrimp!

Thanks for the well wishes guys!

I was finally able to get some soup to stay down last night, and I’m feeling somewhat better but still lethargic. Was required to come to work today… gotta love how the big corporations really care about their employees huh? I wish I was still in bed! But I’ll make it through…

Yesterday Ophelia must have known something was up! She was so super cuddly. Little sweetheart!

Q8- My first thought was food poisoning! but hubby was fine and ate the same thing, and I also had some other yucky symptoms that I’m sure you don’t want to hear about

Hahah! Been there. Especially fun when I have a stream of people at work who come down with the same type of food poisoning. I hear you about lack of love from the big corps. Luckily there’s BB

Oh dear, BunNoob, I’m sorry you had to go back to work so soon =(

Q8, that’s ridiculous, about adults not getting stomach flu. There are however some people that have genetic resistance to the most common type of novovirus. That’s pretty cool.

Since I’ve been working in a giant petri dish for a decade, any resistance to any virus is cool indeed!

I wouldn’t think they would want you back at work! LOL I’ll admit, I try to avoid all the sickies at work. I hate it when people come to work when they are sick. I feel like they are contaminating everything. =\

The good thing about noroviruses is the symptoms are relatively short-lived (1-3 days). Although I hear you are still potentially contagious for up to 2 weeks though. I’m unaware of any cases where a norovirus was passed from human to rabbit. There have been some studies about human noroviruses in dogs. However, it is still uncertain the virus actually causes disease in dogs. The dogs had antibodies, but that doesn’t mean they exhibited symptoms. So, I guess I wouldn’t worry too much about it.
