Okay, so just to preface, my bun is eating normally, drinking normally, and very active/not lethargic.

Lately Ive been upping his veggie intake because of his age, and introducing (slowly) a variety of veggies.

And lately his poops have been smelling like a bad fart. I can smell it not even close to his cage. Is this gas that came out with the poop? Or related to eating more veggies?

His little box is cleaned every day, and today I just got a whiff, and HE smells like this sulfuric smell as well.

There were a couple random poops this morning that were out of the box, and before I put them back in his box I smelled them and WOOO they smelled horrible. Normally his poops don’t smell AT ALL, but lately oof…

This morning he jumped on my chest, and he smelled like the same stale fart smell as well.

Is this a diet thing? His poops are normal, albeit huge cause he eats so much hay, and a little lighter than his usual dark-brown poops, but nothing out of the ordinary in shape or texture, just the smell. Oh the smell. I don’t mind cleaning it but HE smells like it right after the poop. No reside on his butt or anything.

Does anyone have experience with this? He (seems) perfectly healthy in any other aspect. Is this a cue for a vet visit?

When you say upping his veggie intake and slowly could you give an idea of types, how much and in what kind of timeframe you are adding different kinds? What were you giving him before this change happened? Is he neutered?

I can tell you my buns get a nice variety and I’ve never had this issue. The only time I’ve had to deal with stinky poop was due to hormones and marking. This included my neutered buck when I added a second rabbit to the household. With that said I wouldn’t describe my bunny’s smell like sulpher. It was more oniony.

Sorry for what you are going through! That can’t be very pleasant.

Sorry I should have also said he isn’t neutered yet. He’s still young and probably right at the cusp of being able to get neutered, but I’m going back to America for about 2 weeks and want to do it after so I can monitor him rather than the sitter..

The veggies I started with romaine lettuce and sunny lettuce (the red-green lettuce, forgot what it’s called in English) and bok-choy. Yesterday as a little treat I gave him a leaf of kale with romaine and bok-choy. Sometimes I give a piece of basil or parsley, and today I gave him some spearmint just in case it was a digestive thing and I read in various books that mint (in small portions) can help with tummy issues.

I gave him a small strawberry a couple days ago and after he ate it he kind of seemed like he had gas, just laying on me when he usually runs around and around, so I gave him a tummy massage/gas relief massage just in case and he perked up and did his normal run-binky-jump in litter-eat hay- drink-run-eat hay, etc. Dunno if it actually was gas or if he was just relaxed and decided he has enough lol. He loves tummy massages even without gas, so…

Maybe it’s a hormonal thing/marking. He doesn’t poop outside his litter box much (for marking), just a rando-puff here are there while running around, and most of the stink is always in one of the litter boxes (he has two, one in his cage and one out of his cage).

BUT there’s a slight chance he’s a girl. Vet said he looks like a boy, but the groomer said he might be a girl, sooooo… I don’t know if that matters or if both do the same type of marking…

I’ll of course mention this at his next check up.

Thanks! Hopefully it’s just a hormonal thing and he’s not in tummy pain
