        Hello

First time posting so i hope it’s in the right place.

        I have two 5-6 month’s old  bonded Dwarf Hotot’s.(Mischi & Mascha)

And right now I have a issue with them.😅

        There poop stinks.

There poop is normal sized but has a shiny coat to it.They both act normal.

I tried to look for answers.

But what came up where that the causes where either scent glands or territorial pooping.

I cleaned there scent glands but it didn’t help :/

And it I think it can’t be territorial pooping because they got spayed and neutered.

Mischi was neutered on the 22.06

And Mascha was spayed on the 6.07

        And Ideas?

        Thanks

They definitely can still produce territorial or marking poops at this age and since they are newly neutered. What you’re describing certainly sounds like those poops.  I think it has a bit of a onion & corn chip smell, other people describe it to be like body odour.

The substance comes from a gland inside the rectum – a true anal gland. The other scent glands near the genital that we can clean are often called anal glands also.

Did you have to separate them and then bond after the desexing or did they remain together from a younger age?

Thank you so much for you answer.

Oh yes, definitely a strong onion smell.

They were together since they are 9 weeks old.

After they both got neutered they were separated for a week.

After  they were separated(but they could see/smell each other) they were put together without any problems.

My bun poops smell the same way and she was spayed in December! I don’t know what it is but I thought it was just the smell for her poop. I know this isn’t going to help but just wanted to let you know😊

                Thank you 😊

                I hope it will subside.

From my experience, I have found (aka smelled) that my spayed female rabbit still occasionally has fragrant, onion-y poop at times. It happened much more often when she and my other rabbit were in the pre-bonding phase and couldn’t really be together. At this point, they can be together without too much conflict, and the onion-y occurrences are much less. Across all circumstances though, she has been spayed.

As mentioned, territorial pooping can definitely continue to happen beyond the neuter/spay– the urge just isn’t as strong since the hormones have been taken from the equation.

Yep, spaying/neutering can help cut down on territorial poops. However, it doesn’t prevent them from making them. If they really want to mark something, they will do it no matter what.
