Awe. I tried rugs and didn’t like that I tried plastic storage container lids and didn’t do any good either. I got this flexible flooring we all seem to like. However my problem is I need something with high sides. That way their stuff would stay inside their cage. I am tempted to get a big cage with a big solid high sided bottom they sell at the store.

I tried hay holders but those thing the hay falls out of it too. I can’t tell if it is sticking to their hair or they are moving it around and it gets all over the place in the bathroom or what. Cotton doesn”t have that problem. His hair is shorter than the girls hair too. It seems every week I am trying something different.

I am going to hurry and go get that cardboard box and put it under their flooring and make high sides of it. See if that helps any. And I better go it is fixing to rain.

I’m not exactly sure what you’re looking for, but you mentioned high sides. My boyfriend took a big tupperware container and cut it (using an exacto knife) so that it was the shape we wanted, with easy access and high sides on three sides; it’s the perferct litterbox

not the litter box.   I am looking for something to go a couple inches up the sides of the NIC cubes around the outside so their stuff stays inside of the NIC cubes instead of all over the bathroom floor.  I can’t get a cage now my hubby busted my account. I told him not to do that. Well I am tired I am going to take a rest now. Then try putting this cardboard around the sides of the cage. Hopefully they won’t eat the cardboard up

The nic condo tends to get very messy next to my wall.  All the other sides tend to be more accessible to the vacuum.  I put cardboard on the outside of the condo b/t the grid wall and the apt wall.  I’m not sure if this is your problem, but I find w/ the hay and the litterbox it can get messy back there.  1 of my litterboxes has a high back, I have the high back on the wall side.  I also found that I needed to decrease the amount of litter I keep in their boxes b/c all the jumping, often made a mess.  I would suggest doing an outside wall or wall w/ base.  You can get the cloroplast plastic stuff or even get the laminated cardboard & tape it together into the shape you need.  B/c I kept getting hay mess I use a hay ball that hangs over one of the litterboxes and a pretty wicker hay bin that I got on binky bunny.

Is the problem the cage shavings, litter, or everything getting kicked out through the bottom portion of the cage?

I have a NIC condo with thin pegboard about 3 inches upmounted to the outside of the bottom of the condo…(actually took most of it off now, but still have one side there. That worked forme. Just used tie wraps on the top edge to hold it on, then I can flip it up if I need to get anything vacuumed out around it!

Just chiming in, I use plexi glass zip-tied to the inside of the cage to keep things in. Otherwise I would have a major hay explosion all over the floor. That is terrible your hubby put a limitation on you.

Plexiglas is a good idea, it is clear and will look good.  You could also get coroplast and cut it into strips, then zip tie to the outside of the condo.  Our condo sits on a 4′ x 4′ piece of plywood with a 1″ high wood molding nailed around it.  This is high enough to keep the vast majority of the spilled hay and poops inside of the enclosure.  Fur is another story, it seems to have special anti-gravity properties and ends up coating everything near the pen.

yes – I’d recommend the corolplast or plexiglass as well.
