Ok, this might seem a weird question… but does anyone know how to keep static charge off a person rather than clothing? Everyone I have met always finds it weird but here is my problem:

Ever since I can remember, when it gets cold, I get such a heavy static charge from myself that touching metal or people shocks me and anything I touch (you know how you can rub your socks on carpet to produce a shock? I do it naturally, with no effort). If it’s night time, you see a little white shock of the charge coming off, which ok looks kinda cool but is really annoying. This year however, it has become a real problem – I keep shocking my pets, which has never happened before, usually animals don’t cause the same issue not sure if it’s the fur insulation or what. But i’ve shocked Powder on his ears and Stickers on her nose and the poor bird keeps getting it on his beak, so I can hardly even pet the poor little things, I also keep shocking the bf whenever I touch him. lol

I have tried keeping myself super moisturized, I have a $20 bottle of anti-frizz stuff from a salon, I do use drier sheets for the clothes, since I don’t need any more static on my person, but nothing I have tried has worked. :s My mother says it’s my hair (super curly and super thick, which makes it dry) and my grandmother who had the same hair as I have when she was younger agrees. So short of chopping all my hair off, anyone else have any ideas?

Try rubbing a dryer sheet on your hair, sounds silly but it works!

Hrm, can’t say I would have thought of that … I’ll try and see if it helps and if so for how long lol thanks.

Thumpsey, yes my hair is always frizzy after I brush my hair if I don’t wet it first, my boyfriend tells me I look like a lion with bed head

Start running a humidifier. My buns and I would get a little staticky in my apartment and running a humidifier helped. I would just put it in the living room and after a couple of days, everything would be back to normal. lol

Unfortunately, the boyfriend hates humidity, so he’s anti-humidifiers. He says it feels swampy – bleh.

WTH is his problem? LOL If you run it on low, it doesn’t get swampy at all. I would just run mine at night on low. It put enough moisture in the air to make us quit being electrified. LOL

Yeah, I’ll second M&L, it shouldn’t make your house feel swampy at all.

Humidifier, and religious use of lotion on your hands, since they’re doing the shocking. .

Also touch some metal before petting the animals to try and get rid of the static.

I hate this staticky time of year. I always shock my cats when I pet them and then they look at me like I did it on purpose.

LPT, I know, they turn this look on you like “WHAT WAS THAT FOR?”

When I had an issue with static electricity, I found that touching my hands together helped to keep it out for some reason. Other than that, I got into the habit of slapping doorknobs before I grabbed them. The slight sting from the slap masks the discharge pain.

As for the boyfriend, I can think of a way that you could convince him to get a humidifier by showing him the dangers of you having a bad case of static electricity.
