Stasis Scare/Recovery

So long story short, Bonton was kept at the vet yesterday for observation, cc, fluids, and meds. He didn’t eat or go to the bathroom Sunday night in Monday morning. He was excited for his dinner as usual, and then suddenly looked upset and stressed out. Vet checked him over , vitals good, palpated his abdomen with no pain response. He didnt eat on his own or go to the bathroom at the vet. They told us to bring him in this am if he didn’t eat or poop. So I got up at 6 am and noticed he ate all of his greens pile, and a few bites of pellets, peed a lot, and left a smaller than normal amount of poop, some normal, most smaller due to not eating on his own. So they told us to keep giving him the motility drug, metacam, and simethicone for 2-3 more days. He ate a few more pellets today and is accepting any greens I give. But I don’t think he’s eating hay yet. I’ve gotten him to nibble a few pieces, but when I try hand feeding he throws it or try’s to bite me. I know he probably won’t poop again until tonight, but he’s slowly getting his appetite back. What’s a reasonable expectation for him to want hay and poop normally again? A few days? A week? Longer? Any other signs to look for? He will hop around a bit on his own, but he’s also mad at me and thumps and runs away because I have to hold him to give meds. This is all new as we never had a bunny get stasis before. If it was stasis. I just want him to feel better.

Sorry to hear he’s been unwell. Do you have any Critical Care? You could try to offer some mixed with water and see if he eats it on his own.

Did the vet do an X-ray? That’s usually recommended before giving motility drugs to check for blockage.

I do have CC left over from Gimly, but he’s eating on his own now. I was more curious about the hay aspect. He’s been sniffing his food bowls now, and actually jumped in his litter box and ate a couple strands as well. He seems to be on the up and up, just a little off his schedule right now

Elara was off last week. Had to do the whole stasis routine. Thankfully, she was okay and didn’t require a vet trip.

As I was typing this he hopped in his litter box and had a couple hay pieces, and even left a small poop pile! They are small but he’s moving stuff better now.

Do you have access to fresh grass? When Gus was recovering from his last two stasis scares he wasn’t much keen on hay either but was all over the fresh grass I gave him. Eventually after finishing the grass he would just keep nibbling into the hay.

Id have to check my local Mounds about fresh grass, because we are buried in snow and ice right now. But, good news, he started eating hay again last night before dinner time, and i saw him eat some this morning. He was even back to begging for food again lol. Still going to continue his motility drug for today, [per the vets request. He pooped a good volume overnight too, albeit they were smaller than usual. But they will get bigger as he eats more of his hay.

So im a little anxious about stopping his motility drug today, but the last two nights hes been demolishing his dinner, begging for food, eating lots of hay, and using his litter box frequently. His poop volume has been really good, but his poops are still on the smaller side for him. all uniform round and not dry though. They have seemed to get a bit bigger since his issue on monday. Will it take a couple days to regain normal size as he starts eating more hay? each night hes been eating more frequently and more volume each time.

Im bumping this thread because once again he stopped eating last night and looked a bit stressed out before that. i firmly believe its my fault because i try to pet him and he grunts at me and runs away, but i keep doing it. and i think it stresses him out to the point of not eating. He was willingly taking some greens snacks and petting up until maybe like 8 or 830 and then wouldnt accept anything food related. He pooped a little bit like usual at about 530 and had some hay and maybe hay like an hour or two later. he kept hopping in like he was going to the bathroom but never did. Im taking him to the vet in a couple hours to have him checked out. He didnt touch his food overnight, but did pee and left a few more poops(not much because no food). he was kinda of sniffing his food but was uninterested. he did however drink some water and get comfy for pets from my wife. it never looked like gas because he wasnt pressing his tummy and constantly changing positions, but i tried gas drops anyways. he was still hopping around and sitting comfortable, or sitting up and grooming. no hunched position that i noticed.

This is so confusing. My vet called like an hour ago and Bonton is great(yay!). He was there only 2 hours so far. They gave him some fluids and a force feeding, after that he ate it from a bowl, drank water, and was munching hay and veggies. And there was poop. I’m really starting to think I stress him out somehow and that causes his episodes of not eating. Hopefully he will be pleased to come home but now I’m worried I’ll just somehow make him upset
