My rabbit Calliope has recently been showing some concerning signs that she is not altogether healthy but I am not sure what steps to take from here. She is still producing cecotropes and pooping but the poops are irregular in size and none (or very few) are the size and shape they are supposed to be. She is still eating, drinking, and acting normally but she has been pressing her stomach towards the floor which I know can be a sign of GI stasis but I have only seen it a few times as she stretches up from a loaf position.

Is it time to take her to the vet? I am going out of town soon and I don’t want her symptoms to progress and get excused by her caretaker.

        Thanks for any help!

I’m sorry to hear that☹️. It must be stressful for you. It could be gas, and that would make sense why his stomach is pressed against the floor. Try some stomach massages, I’ve found those very effective. You can find good ways to massage a buns stomach online. I often rock my bunny’s stomach back and forth gently on both sides when he’s experiencing gas. Also, if you have simethicone baby gas drops, it could help too. Just make sure she keeps eating (especially hay) and drinking. I wish you all the luck🍀🙏!

I agree. If she’s still eating and drinking normally, then I don’t think it could be GI stasis. If she’s pressing her tummy on the ground then it’s most likely gas, and you can help soothe her tummy by massaging it, and you can also get her some simethicone (baby gas drops) to help her relieve some gas.  Syringing her some herbal tea like green tea or chamomile can help soothe her tummy as well. If it’s not gas she could maybe have an upset stomach? Don’t panic! It can be really stressful, but I’m sure everything will turn out okay ♥

She is still doing well and acting normal so nothing is getting worse at this point. Thanks for your suggestions, hopefully, they help make her more comfortable!

In addition to the suggestions mentioned above, I might also hold off any cruciferous veggies (eg broccoli) if you’re feeding her those that may cause more gas. If she stops eating make sure you have critical care on hand.  In my house we worship simethicone and tummy massages 🙌🏼
