Starting with a baby and a neutered adult?

Well, I am not ready to give up on finding Chubs an adult friend, but just want to know what everyone thinks? If he responded well to a baby bunny, (and babies usually respond well to anyone…) would that be a bad idea? Since you’d have to separate them when baby started growing into its hormones and had to get fixed? I’m thinking it’s a no but I figure I would see what all of you thought. And Rachel, Sammy met Ivy when Ivy was younger and un-fixed right?

Well one of our forum member had had great success with a baby and and adult (and they are both male) – Katiehedger with Max and Penney. So anything is possible. I say give all options a try but don’t count on anything :~)

I wouldn’t rule it out. If Chubs can meet the baby first. It might be understood between them that he is dominant, and that could work.
There was an adorable pair whose names I am trying to remember – Dexter? and … Sarita, help. Anyway, they really got along with the tiny one trailing along next to the bigger guy.

I’m curious, why would they have to be seperated when the baby gets older, if Chubs is already fixed?

I agree with Monkeybun – they may NOT have to be separated. Katie’s rabbits never were separated – this is really a case by case basis. Some rabbits start misbehaving and some don’t so you don’t have to assume this may be the case if the other rabbit is altered.

Hehe I feel like a celebrity

Max and Penny are my first rabbits and my first attempt at bonding so I didn’t do it the smarrrrtest way, but it worked out. Penny (who I thought was a girl) was a teeny baby when I got her (I still call him “her”). 6 weeks old, i believe. And I just jumped right in with the bonding. It went great and they loved each other. Max was already neutered and Penny was not. She was just neutered this past week. Now, 2 months later, they are both neutered and bonded. It was a really easy bond, luckily. So I think it definitely can be done

but no no you cannot separate them. it would be like separating you from your best friend. so sad

anyways, if you want to try bonding mr chubbs and a baby, i can surely try to help!

I guess I just figured they’d have to be separated when she/he went to get altered, and while she (or he) healed from the surgery. I know they’re supposed to go to the vet together but he couldn’t be in the surgery with her/him and I’m assuming they’d need to heal but it sounds like no. How did that work for your pair Katie? Did the baby start acting up/acting agreesive or anything towards the adult? I’m intrigued…

Haha yeah my two were with each other post-Penny-surgery. I didn’t bring both to the vet, though. Because they were already bonded, they groom each other regularly and not all over the wound, the healing process isn’t interrupted. Penny was never aggressive or anything towards Max. She started spraying a LOT and poop wars, but no fighting. I think because I got her neutered as soon as her goodies had descended, she didn’t have time to become aggressive or moody.

I’ve had Echo, Calypso’s baby bunny, for about a month now, and things have gone swimmingly. I’m really hoping that their bonding doesn’t start taking steps backward as Echo goes through puberty. So far, it has been a delight to watch them fall in love. The only issue they’re still trying to work out is who is the boss of the love seat. lol. All other territories have been disputed and conceded by one party or the other.

I looked all over for an adult pal for Calypso, as well, but in the end I’m so thrilled to have little Echo in our lives… Good luck with finding Chubs a friend!

Keep searching…. Im sure the perfect mate for Chubs is out there!!! I think that Samson and Ivy are about the same age. Ivy was abandoned in a park about 1 month after easter (so I am guessing he was about 8 wks old at easter time and given to someone in an easter basket… then a month later dumped in the park). A really nice lady rescued him from the park and fostered him until she couldnt anymore because of an allergy to hay.

When Samson and Ivy met neither were neutered (I know not a good situation!) But Samson’s apt was the next day and I didnt want them to meet shortly after his big apointment and someone get injured. Since they got along (actually they just ignored eachother for most of the time, then a little humping by both, and it ended with a mini groom) Ivy’s parents said they would bring Ivy in to get neutered that week as well. Both recovered at their own homes for 3 wks and then I adopted Ivy.

Things I watched for when Sammy and I went on dates:
1) Aproaching from the front to say “hi”, this can be followed by circling around to the back for a hump…. but if they aproach from the front at least they are saying hi first!
2) Ignoring eachother
3)Willing to sit by one another (forced) for pets
4) No agressive chasing or niping
5) Humping is okay (get ready because there will be lots of it at first with their bond) but one needs to be submissive. Whomever ends up being the submissive one needs to be “okay” with this role.

Keep going on bunny dates!! The more you go on the better chance you will have of Chubs meeting his bestest friend! Watch his body language… Im sure soon you will find one that he gets along with.
