        Hi,

My vet suggested I start Buster on veggies now. I started with parsley for two days. So far so good. She loves it and gobbles it up. Should I keep her on that the rest of the week, and then just introduce another veggie next week? I have collards and celery  in my fridge now for this week. When they say ‘introduce’ one at a time, I wasn’t sure how long to do one veggie for.

        Thank you!!!!!!!

I think you should – one week and then introduce another and so on. I’m glad she loves her parsley :~)

Actually since I have a bunny the same age as Denise, may I chime in with a question? I was thinking of doing one week per vegetable as WELL, but how MUCH should be given daily to young buns? I’ve aired on the side of extreme caution and been giving my bun one stick of celery a day right now… but how much IS it okay to give when introducing young buns to new vegetables? And good luck with Buster, Denise!

              Please, ask away Viola.
I’m only starting with no more than 10-20 sprigs of parsley. Last night I gaver her the most, and her poop was soft and bigger. I hope thats ok!
My vet told me the veggies should be the size of a side salad you would get in a restaurant. I would say gradual is best and that if one stick is working, stick to that!

Another question! How about if the veggies look like they go bad for me to eat…like celery getting soggy, etc. Is it bad for them to eat?
              Thanks!

One new veggie a week is safe to monitor their droppings. To answer your other quesiton, if you wouldn’t eat it yourself, don’t feed it to your bunny! Fresh food is the better choice, not soggy or brown veggies. Hope that helps!

Here’s the recommended veggie list from House Rabbit Society.

They say 1/2 ounce of a veggie for a bunny under 7 months, but that’s a general idea.

I like the dark, leafy veggies as a healthy start. Easy to digest usually.

Ok I know that I am new to the Bunny thing but I researched and everyone said a cup to 2 cups a day for a bunny so at 5 – 8 weeks of age that is what Anya gets and she loves them and had no ill effects and that is what she gets now. But I agree i think I was lucky and you should start slow in introduce more and more each week.

Start slow, with a small amount. Each week you can try to introduce something new. You can also increase the amounts each week until the bun is getting 2 cups per day.

At this point, my buns have about 12 different veggies that I know they like and tolerate well… I can switch these veggies in and out at random and they have no ill effects. Some buns will be more picky, but you will figure out what works best for you.
