Update: I just wanted to let everyone know that Rupert is back to his old self. I just wanted to put this update at the top to show the importance of having Baby Gas Drops (simethicone) on hand for situations like this.
Last night was New Years DAY evening and even the stores that did open for a little while were already closed!
If I did not have the baby gas drops on hand this would have resulted in a late night, and expensive, after hours emergency vet trip!
And while I was freaking out – as we all do when our fur babies aren’t well – with those drops he was back to normal in just under 3 hours!
I still would have taken him to the vet if I was seeing no change, but thankfully it didn’t come to that!
Hope everyone had a great new years!!

So I have 2 bunnies- Penlope and Rupert….

Rupert just started to do the uncomfortable position change / push belly in to floor… hop in letter box and back out again and snubbing Kale – his Favorite!!!

He is IMPOSSIBLE to get medication in to – even with the two of us!

So I put the baby gas X om his head – which he groomed some off of.. Penny wont even from it off him.

Unlike my previous senior bunny he wont let me give him belly riubs..
But I can tell he is soooo uncomfortable!

        So what now?

I cleaned the litter box – but now shes gone in it – so it’s hard to tell if hes squeezed one out when he hoped in for a minute. I could tell he was trying.

Sigh – please send healing vibes!

Now hes moving around and flopping around on his side in his litter box
How long before I can see the gas x work if it’s going to??

ok, so its been almost an hour – he still can’t get comfortable and hasn’t pooped.
I’m going to try to give him some more baby gas x now.

When my previous rescued senior bunny got gas it was more more quite… He is way more dramatic with his flopping back and forth…

Can some bunny’s be more “dramatic’ than others? or is the pain/discomfort worse for him?

I’m freaking out more than I normally would with this being so soon in to this – he ate 2 hours before this… because he is being so much more dramatic.

I’m trying to give him a few hours of the gas x and attempting belly rubs before I drive over an hour with both of them and pay way over priced vet after hours emergency fee’s if this will take care of itself in a few hours… but the bunny “mom” in me wants to just take him and go… but my hubby is laid off and we can’t afford the un-needed trip.

            AND Now I’m rambling. I ramble when I’m worried/stressed.

Ok so about to give him his 3rd dose… hes finally nibbled at some of his pellets (used as a treat as hes kibble obsessed..) which is good as he turned his nose up at it 30 min ago…

Hopefully we have turned the corner!

Hey A&B – Thanks so much for checking in!!
His is 100% acting like his normal self – went back to going nuts for their morning pellets and was digging in to the hay last night and pooping again!

He was being SO Over the top with his flopping back and forth (not able to get comfortable) and I’ve never seen it that dramatic from a rabbit before – I was ready to say Screw trying the baby gas drops we are going to the vet NOW! But my hubby convinced me to try the gas drops first as it would have been an after hours emergency trip and he recently got laid off from work.

Funny ending to this though – Keep in mind that the other two rabbits – my previous bunny who passed away last year and now Penny, who he’s bonded with now are both girls and have been the only personal experience I’ve had with rabbits and gas/tummy issues and his just seemed SO much worse, but he got over it pretty quickly…..

So I looked at my husband and said “LOOK – Male Bunny’s get the Over-Exaggerated “MAN COLD” Too!!!!” LOL

Good to hear he’s better <3 and oh my goodness yes! My boys can be such divas at times! Especially Bombur! He has bad eyesight from his EC, so we need to put him the cage via the litter box. Whenever he wants to go back in he'll go to his door, then run to the litter box and look between us and the cage like "well hooms, aren't you going to carry me home like Cleopatra?" xD

I know when Bombur gets stasis he’s just stubborn as heck. You’ll try to get him to move or massage him, and he basically glares at you and presses harder to the floor. I know in general when Bombur flops naturally out of contentment he’s very noisy about it. Asriel is very graceful and you don’t even know he’s flopped till you see it. With Bombur you hear BOOM and think he’s dead.

Thanks Jerseygirl! Me too – both for him and for my wallet lol.

Now I’m being the “Helicopter” parent with him. Yesterday he was sitting out while Penny was running around and I kept looking at him thinking “Is he just relaxing? or is he looking uncomfortable again?”
Which always happens after they have been sick.

So as much as he hated me – I squirted some of the GasX on the top of his head for him to clean it off.

I figured it was a compromise as he would hate being picked up and buritto wrapped to give it to him in his mouth much more than just cleaning it off himself… as I’m pretty sure I was just being paranoid getting it ALL into his mouth wasn’t the biggest concern lol.
