Are there any pre-cautions to stairs that one should take? Or would they generally figure it out for themselves whether to take them and be safe?

For example, would stairs where the steps are less than X inches in depth be unsafe? Or railings that are too wide? Or extremely long flight of stairs?

It’s probably easier to know what rabbitproofing precautions need to be taken when asking about a specific staircase rather than general ones. Are you moving and considering a house with stairs? They come in surprisingly different configurations, mostly determined by their surroundings and where they lead to and from. Offhand the bunny is going to have better traction with carpeted stairs, but if it’s a particular staircase, please describe it in detail or just take a photo so we can see what you need.

It can vary, too, with the bunny, not just the stairs. My bunny would be stuck on one floor because she won’t jump. Others would fly up them two at a time.

You reminded me of when Kokanee first saw stairs (we lived in an apartment that didn’t have them, and was visiting family that did). She stomped, growled and then charged the stairs and then us. It was like she was furious with us for messing with the floor

I would not allow a bunny who is a crazy adventurous goof to play on hardwood stairs that are open and have an open railing. But if the stairs are closed and has a wall on both sides, I would assume any rabbit would be fine with that. As RP said, watch your bunny and see how he does.

Also try letting your bunny go up the stairs rather then down for their first stair introduction to stairs

Before unleashing the buns upon a full staircase of steps, allow them to get acclimated to a few steps. If you can baby gate the staircase 3 steps up, they can “practice”… Buns will more readily go up than down.
