I’ve have Momiji for 4 weeks now and his cage and pen aren’t linked. Every time I put him in his cage, it seems he struggles more and more to hop out before I’m to his cage. He’s very used to being handled, so I don’t know why he’s getting worse. Also he isn’t neutered, and when i put a new pillow in the pen he was vibrating his whole body, especially his tail, so I don’t know if that’s why he’s acting a bit timid. He hops away a little when I try to pick him up lately. Any advice?

Do small practices. So just pick him up a centimeter off the ground, put him down gently, then praise him. You need to get him 1) acclimated to being picked up and 2) trusting that being picked up is secure. This means if you putting him down is habitually him leaping out or squirming out, the message of insecurity is being enforced, as well as becoming an expectation.
