Is spring mix okay for rabbits? Since there are mulitple kinds of veggies in it, can you just feed it by itself and no other veggies? hope that made since.

I give spring mix to my rabbit like three times a week. I asked my vet to see if it is ok for rabbit to eat spring mix. She said it is ok as long you read the label on the bag that didnt mentioned “Dressing add”. DON’T GET IT!

I use it all the time for their base salad & add other things to it to change it up a bit.
Such as wee bits of carrot, carrot tops, bits of cucumber, kale, beet leaves, chard. parsley, cilantro etc…..

I don’t eat much salad myself, so I’m not sure what’s in a “spring mix” but be careful with the lettuce, you should only give romaine lettuce or dark leafy lettuce. The icebreg lettuce has no nutritional value, and can cause diarrhea if too much is fed. You’d be better off with some of the other veggies on this list:
              http://www.rabbit.org/care/veggies.html

Stuff like parsley, cilantro, and romaine and mustard leaves are sold in bunches at the grocery store and are relatively inexpensive. The bagged salads and things are much more expensive and not as nutritionally valuable to a bun.  And if you can get to a farmers market, the stuff there is fresh and you can often get a deal on things!

Spring mix is fine as long as there are other veggies as well. I do find that the red colored lettuces seem to go bad alot quicker than the green colored lettuces so watch out for that.

Our local store sells a “Container” of spring Mix for 1.99 – I will often buy one of those to use as a Fast “I don’t have time to do a real shopping for the lettuces et al you need, so here is a Rabbit version of “Fast food”

Coco loves it – I’ve not offered it to Jackson yet, but he is One fussy bun in general. Has turned up his fuzzy nose to Both Mint AND baby Spinach.
But yeah – I think of it as my quick meal if I am in between shoppings

I get the 1 pound box of Spring Mix at my grocery. I also use it as their salad base.
I place 2 small paper towels in the bottom of the box and one on top of the greens before closing the box. This way the towels “hold” the moisture instead of the greens. It is the really wet greens that end up going slimy – Yuck!
The box last me & my buns about 1 week!

I would definitely do some price comparisons also and factor in how long the box will last you…

My buns LOVE the lettuce cores of whole heads of romaine, escarole, endive and green/red-leaf lettuce so I prefer to get the whole head and just divide it up into separate days. For a long time I was keeping the lettuce leaves and throwing away the cores until I learned (on Binkybunny) that they can eat the cores!

Last night, I gave spring mix to my rabbit. I checked the ingredient. I noticed it include baby Spinach. So, Don’t give spring mix too much to your rabbits.

Spinach can cause gas or tummy upset in some rabbits. Like with any veggie, you’ll have to closely evaluate how your rabbits reacts to it, some buns can only have it occasionally or in very small amounts.

You will probably know if he is not eating and sitting hunched up in a corner that he possibly has gas or is not feeling well.

So sping mix is okay to feed. If i feed parsley, cilantro and spring mix will that be enough variety.

You can give green bell peppers, dandelion, parsley (not too much), spring mix, cilantro, spearmint, mint, celery, kale (not too much), and more

psst, you can grow parsley indoor to save a lot of money. Cilantro and parsley are growing in my apartment. I save over 140 dollars (for a year) from these indoor plant instead buying them in stores.
