I know the ultimate answer is to get her spayed, but I still have to wait until September (when she hits 6 months) so I am looking for any suggestions to tide me over until then. I have two rabbits; Almond, spayed, 7 months old, AJ, unspayed and 3-ish months old. I got the Almond second and just as AJ hit three months so in addition to getting teen hormones there was suddenly an intruder in her space!
I initially kept them in separate rooms (in x-pens) but I have now moved them into the same room so they can smell each other and hopefully bonding will be easier when they’re both fixed. The problem that I have is that when I let the AJ out, she runs over and sprays around the older one’s pen. The other day the Almonddecided to reciprocate and had a nice big pee right bu AJ’s pen (I had no litter issues with her prior).
Now that they have both peed I am wary to let them out for very long or unsupervised (despite things being bunny proof). I feel bad because it means they are spending more time in their x-pens. I do still let them out but I have to be able to hover and watch to be the clean up crew.
I have been mopping it up and cleaning it with vinegar. They both have rag rugs that get washed when they get peed on. While this works for now, if anyone has any suggestions I’d appreciate it! Otherwise I am waiting until September. A non-rabbit friend suggested doggy diapers but I am worried about urine burn (though it would be only when out) and the possibility of disturbing other litter habits.
