Hello. I have a 2.5 month old lop (not sure what kind yet) named Humphrey. I am definitely getting him neutered ASAP. I had him out last night and I was tidying his cage and cleaning out his litter box (not totally trained, but uses it most of the time) and I noticed there was pee, all up my wall. It was like someone was using a fire hose and let go of it….all over my wall. Does this mean that he is sexually mature now? Or am I going to have to go through months, of him trying to clean the walls himself, until I can get him altered? For now I have some pizza boxes taped to the side of his cage so he will get those (I might need to put some on top, he has good distance). Any help would be nice

        Thanks so much!

        Kendra

Well it definitely means he’s “spraying” Have you had him for 2.5 months or he is 2.5 months old? Generally rabbits aren’t seperated from mom until eight weeks-so if you’ve had him for 2.5 months he should be right about the age he can get neutered at =5 months old. You could start looking for a bunny vet and get an exam done to determine his age and see if he’s suitable to get neutered right away.

          Welcome to Binkybunny!

Yeah, he is only 2.5 months old. I think the girl I saved him from got him from a pet store and she said he was born feb 2. So when I got him, he wasn’t even 2 months old. Kind of fishy to me. I know of a vet that I am bringing him to, but I would need to beg for a day off because I would 9-5 mon-fri….which is annoying if you need medical stuff or bank stuff done lol.

I JUST now realized that I got him on March 20th, his birthday was Feb 20th, he was only a month old when I got him! So now he is almost 2 months old. Now I am kind of mad and sad for him.

He looks older than 2 months from the pic you posted in the other thread. Will he let you turn him over? With males you can sometimes see the testicles, two little oval bumps down in his “area”. The vet will be able to give you a good estimate of his age. Typically with pet store bunnies, you never know their real age, as stores don’t like to admit they are selling buns younger than 8 weeks old.

Males can be neutered when the testicles drop, usually between 3 and 4 months…

I am able to get him on his back if I sneak up on him lol, but he squirms when I touch anything other than his head. But I will try tonight to find anything.

I got him off a website from a little girl that couldn’t keep him, like I said, and I still check back from time to time and search for bunnies. I noticed something was a bit odd with this one ad. The pics that were used for Humphrey’s ad were almost exactly the same as this one, blanket on a table with pine trees in the background, same profile and frontal views of both buns. I decided to snoop around a little bit and e-mailed this breeder to see if he came from her. At least so I can know his age and maybe a little more about him, what kind of lop he is…etc. But it just all seems weird to me. I don’t want to e-mail Humphrey’s previous owner because it could upset her and the family wasn’t too pleasant. Anyways, I will let everyone know when I find out. And I will try my hardest to find those little testicles

                  Thanks,

                  Kendra

Age and breed really don’t matter, I wouldn’t go out of your way to track breeders down or anything. He’s a young bun and the vet will be able to tell you an approximate age and when (or if) he’s ready to be neutered. Many of our buns are mixed breeds, and we don’t necessarily know their age (sometimes only their age within a couple years), but we love them just the same!

Like many other people, I don’t know when my buns birthdates are, so we celebrate adoption dates. I prefer to think of the time when my furry family came into my life!

Max (lop) was June 6, 2008. Meadow (mini rex) was July 21, 2007. ;o)

HE HAS TESTES! Yay! I can’t see them, but I can definitely feel them

EDIT: Oh now I see them lol they’re weird.

Well, the fact they have dropped means he may be ready to be neutered. Check with your vet.  Males can be neutered around 3 months.

So, we had a little mishap this morning. Humphrey was throwing a tantrum and I decided to go see what the heck was up. Apparently he didn’t want me to because he sprayed me! Little turd! lol. I had just put on clean clothes, too hahaha. So, I called the vet this morning and he is booked to have his manhood removed on Wednesday! Yay! lol. And yes I did inform them of his age

spraying can be a sign of “affection”- so it might not have been anger or sttitude that he was expressing- but that you are his “mate” and he wants everyone to know.

That is kind of cute. I just think it was a tantrum because he was literally throwing stuff around in his cage and thumping the floor of it. His bed ended up in his litter box lol

Yup! It usually only takes one or two sprayings to get them booked in for a neuter ASAP! It might be a sign of affection, but it is not fun!

Yeah, it’s a really crappy way of showing affection! lol
I let him out last night and he kept giving me little sprays. At least he loves me LOL

So he is not being neutered on Wednesday, that is just when he is getting his check over for the anesthetic. Grr. He sprayed me again this weekend, three times, in the face and hair 😐
I really hope they can get him in really fast after this check up.

I will ALWAYS adopt rabbits who are already fixed. After digger spraying me from across the room and his swelling after surgery? That was enough to give me a stroke. I’m so lucky the bunny boys were so easy…I can’t even imagine what a wreck I would have been if I had to have Marshmallow done.

Good luck Kendar, hope you get your neuter soon. :0)

Thank you, I hope so too. I am nervous to get him done, but I need to do it. When my dog was neutered he also had a hernia removed. Everything was fine for the first little while and then the hernia opened again, so he had to get it fixed again (free the second time). He also has severe separation anxiety and broke nine of his teeth on his kennel door. He had to get a root canal
I am mostly nervous about how to keep him from getting excited after and what to look for if something goes wrong. And how to keep him from licking. But I am also really looking forward to it lol

Awe I understand being nervous.  That’s normal.  Males normally bounce back much quicker than females.  Here is a great article by the House Rabbit Society that covers pre AND post care.

Yeah, my dog is fine now. We just have to get his younger sister to babysit him at my mom’s house if we can’t take him somewhere lol. As long as he has a dog with him that is just as hyper or more hyper, he is fine.

Humphrey sprayed me twice in a row last night and I thought, you know what? I am going to take that because it’s not like I just put clean clothes on and I need to shower soon anyways lol. He does the custest thing every morning. He will rest his top lip on the plastic on the cage and wait for me to stick my fingers through and rub his nose. He just sits there and closes his eyes hehehe. He’s so smitten!

The only worry the vet had was that he seems to chew his pellets on one side and his hay on the other, so one side is flat and the other side is wavey. So he has the appointment on Tuesday. Can’t wait hehehe. My little guy is growing up so fast!

Are they going to take a closer look at his teeth when he goes under? If they have to be trimmed, it needs to be done under anesthesia, so it would be great if they could do that at the same time if it’s necessary.
