I have a couple bunnies that don’t get phased by the spray bottle either. With aggressive rabbits, I find that the best way to try to address this is to gently push their head down when they are being aggressive. In addition, it is probably best to try to analyze the reasons that he is being aggressive and try to deal with the root causes, as opposed to just using punishment, since punishment may just have the opposite effect of making him even more aggressive.

Yup spray bottle is magic with dogs and cats, but rabbits seem to either ignore it or get madder. Try shouting “NO” and/or clapping your hands instead. Otherwise your the mean lady who makes me wet

My bun will stand there until he is absolutely soaked then look at me like “I’m cold. Please get me a blanket”
Doesn’t phase him a bit, just makes more work for me.

mine will repsond to it sometimes. the bottle needs to be set on “stream”. if it is on “mist” it will have no effect whatsoever. i agree that for some buns you need an alternate method of getting their attention.

The water stream works great for getting Wally out from under my bed when he stealths in without permission. But then I always feel bad afterwards looking at him all wet, and end up giving him love and trying to console him, so I try not to use it. He’s learning that when I snap my fingers I don’t like what he’s doing – a la The Dog Whisperer. I don’t even have to make the “ssshhht” noise to go with it anymore, just snap once or twice and he typically stops. Just takes some good old fashioned classical conditioning. (When I first started if he didn’t respond to the snap and the shhht he’d get physically moved if he was in arms reach or sprayed if he was further away – so we’re making progress!). So yeah, see if clapping or something else will snap him out of it instead. I used to thump at Wally too if I disapproved of something he did, then he really knew I meant business! 😛

I can soak my bunnies and they’ll still do what ever it is that made me spray them in the 1st place so I’m very skeptical about spray bottles when it comes to bunnies.

Shout No or clap, and a can filled with pennies and taped works too (so long as they know you have it in reach…)

I guess some-buns are just different. My two flea the second I reach for the spray bottle. Meanwhile, clapping and shouting doesn’t phase Robbie at all. Lizzy will respond to getting yelled at, but only when she feels like it. Reach for the spray bottle, though, and they’re SOOO out of there!

Robbie didn’t respond at first, either. He sat there and glared at me, continued squatting someplace I didn’t want him (on the way to behind the couch, where all the extension cords are shoved!), and I just kept spraying and saying “Out!”. Finally, he was drenched. He sort of sighed, and gave one little hop in the right direction. And I toweled him off and cooed at him for being a poor wet bun. Now when I reach for the bottle, he knows I’m not screwing around, and immediately ceases all evil behavior!

(I think he’s an adrenaline junky, though. After I yell/spray him, he does massive stag-leaps away, then does a huge contorting binky or two, and then leaps onto the couch for pets. This routine ONLY happens when he gets in trouble! So weird!)

^ I’ve heard that before, buns who enjoy getting into trouble or working up their parents!! Sounds like he’s a bit of a bugger!!
