Took him to get nuetered today to the vet where my boyfriend had all his rabbits neutered when he was growing up. The same vet is there and he was really nice and has done a lot of rabbit neuters. The only thing is that they didn’t give any meds for him for pain. What should I do if he looks like he is in pain? Can I give him a half or quater of a advil- or asprin?

I didn’t know that they could give you meds for them. He seems to be acting fine though– he is drinking and eating. He is just moving a little slow but he has only been home for a couple hours now. The vet is known for his “mirco incisions.” So there is hardly a cut– and he doesn’t have stiches.

Typically, male rabbits recovery pretty quick from a neuter so you may not need meds. Sometimes they use a long lasting pain med as part of the procedure and that gets them through initially.

You can always ask if you could pick some up if you think he is starting to show signs of being in pain. You can also put a warm compress on the site to give some relief if it looks inflamed and there’s swelling.

Is it normal for him to not be eating as much as normal? He eats a little bit of his greens, and I see him drinking water a lot, but his pellets look untouched. I can also hear him eating hay. I guess he is fine as long as he is eating something, right? He is out of his cage now, just checking everything out. He seems fine. Just want to make sure the appetite thing is normal.

Yes, that is normal. DO NOT give him any advil. It may take him a few days to get totally 100% what you expect him to be. And definitely at least 24 hours from the time you pick him up. I have given my rabbits aspirin but only with a vet’s consent.

Vibes to Spook – keep us updated on him.

vets often give individual, pre-filled, measured syringes for pain meds. I would not try administering any dosages of anything on your own.

if i had my balls removed, i probably wouldnt be thinking about food too much. If he starts listening to barbara streisand though, then its time to take him back in.

I’ve come across a new problem. I think spooky may have scratched his eye while he was on his medicine yesterday. There is blood in the whites of one of his eyes. He is acting perfectly fine though, and has been eating more since I last posted. I called the emergency vet but they told me to keep a close eye on him and to call the vet that neutered him on monday.

Anyone else experienced a scratch to the eye before?
