Spider bunny!

So my beautiful lionhead doe, Tulip, lives in a HUGE NIC condo..but I have a major problem! She can get out! It is 3 ‘cubes’ high (each cube being 14′)…half of it has a roof and the other dosent, so that I can get in and out. Tulip is CLIMBING out! o.O I dont know what to do! Right now I have bunnyproofed my room to the  ninth degree and she is living in there, but that cant work- shes terribly messy! She is getting spayed Tuesday (im so scared!)…but Im also afraid she is going to still try and climb it and fall over and break her back..help!

Lol. I’ve heard some do that. Put a lid on it, chicken wire or something.

Bunnies can chew through chicken wire (probably difficult while climbing but still possible) which could lead to them getting cut so I wouldn’t use that personally. I’ve heard of some people pegging a blanket across the open area to stop the bun getting out.

Its funny you would suggest a blanket..I tried that and she would go under it..I guess maybe I could put a more form fitting one on top?

I’ve never heard of a rabbit chewing through chicken wire, let alone hanging on a wall doing it! but if it worries you, welded wire is like, 14 gauge and they wouldn’t be able to chew through that.

I’ve heard it mentioned a few times so I’ve always avoided it just in case. They always mentioned that thicker wire I think you were talking about to use instead .

Did you have the blanket tightly secured (numerous pegs)? If you can’t seem to find something to go over the top then maybe you should think about getting more NIC grids and adding them to the open area. I have a NIC cage and the way I got around the not being able to reach in thing was by making the door larger. My door is one panel long and two panels high but you could have it as a 2×2 door if you had three or more panels length wise. It’s still quite difficult to get into Belle’s pen at the far side from the door but I’m happier having the security that she can’t get out so I don’t mind stretching a little .

I know what you mean I had a bundinni too!! bu tthe only way I figured out how to stop him was to build a roof and he still climbs now.

I would be very carefull, Chipmunk one of my other buns did that and got caught by his foot and broke his toe. And whats worse it didnt heal correctly, and now has to be amputated. So it is a dangerous thing for them to do

Chipmunk lives in his habitat in our livingroom in a NIC Cage. I have three Nic cages in my living room and had to build tops for two of them. cause they are climbers. I didnt have to put a top on my flemish giants cage cause he doesnt climb. and Chipmunk learned to climb when we got our two foster buns Raven and Cinnamon by copying them.

I had this problem also after spending lots of time building my three story condo my bun would jump out the top grids I had for my roof. I put a sheet of panel on the top and cut strips from cardboard boxes and zip tied it half way on the grids of each floor. She couldn’t stick her head out and try to escape and she loves to chew on the cardboard. I just keep some extra pieces so I can replace them if needed. Good luck!

So funny! Many people don’t realize rabbits can climb haha. I’ve had thus happen too. Especially young ones. When they get heavier they don’t seem to manage it quite so easy.

Even if you do have Tulip more in your room, it still might be idea to devise a full top for the condo. Just in case there are times you need to keep her confined. A top to prevent her getting out but also anything getting in. Other pets…children…

I agree with the suggestion to make more if a top with grids. How about constructing another half top and zip tie it to existing half across middle of condo.? So it would open it like a lid. You’d need to secure it when lid down though, with bull dog clips perhaps.
Some bunnies can be REALLY determined. Lol! I’ve had to use a ton of clips before or something to safely weight to top down.
