Keep us updated with how it goes. Sometimes bunnies can come back from the vet smelling not like their normal self (especially if they have been through surgery). Other people’s’ scents and the scent from surgery can sometimes make the bunny back at home not recognize the returning bunny. My vet recommends bringing the bunny with when you take your bunny home and let them ride home together. However, I would make sure you have someone in the care with you just in case Toby does try to pick on Babe. You could also try and get your scent and Toby’s scent on Babe as soon as you are able. You just have to pet her all over to get your scent on her and bring Toby’s hair (from a recent combing/brushing) and rub that over her as well.
It is also possible for a healthy bunny to pick on a bunny that is healing, but in all of the cases when I have brought a bunny home from surgery, this has not happened. But the “scent thing” has caused curiosity and a little reaffirmation of dominance at times. So that is why I always try to get a familiar scent back on the fur. Soon enough Babe’s own scent will come through of course when it’s not masked with strange vet scents. But in the mean time you can try and erase/cover up the vet scents with yours and Toby’s.
Oh, and i just realized you said hutch — is this inside or outside. IF it is outside and for whatever reason you are unable to bring them in (which I highly recommend during recovery at the very least), then I would not leave her out there unsupervised with Toby. As Sarita and Beka pointed out you will have to really watch and see how Toby reacts. (and this is througout her recovery)
