We just now finally got home.. Rain did wonderful according to the vet and im just glad its over with. Waiting to get her spayed has been a huge weight on my shoulders and im glad its finally done. She held her peepee all the way home and as soon as i let her into her cage she jumped right in her litter pan and peed for what felt like forever hahaha.. poor girl had to GO! She also started munching on some hay too which helped me feel a bit better about this being done. I will see how she does in the morning and weigh her pellets and see how much of it she ate. Thanks everyone for all the well wishes, comments and suggestions, just as you all said she did great!
Still covered in betadine

awwww her poor little bald tummy!!! im sooo glad that she did so well!
im scared to get pepper neutered, but im glad hes a boy because i think its a bit less invasive to do a neuter compared to a spay.
yeah.. the benefits wayyyy out weigh the risks. That and I know she will never be the cause of any further problems with rabbit over population. Of course she wouldnt anyway but its nice to know its done and over with. Less hormones, less witchyness caused by hormones, exc. Shes a sweet sweet girl who deserves a good long cancer free life. Shes definetly sore im sure but in a few days she will be fine. I want to wash that betadine off so badly because its really going to stain her white fur but at the same time shes so sore i just wanted to leave her alone to rest.
Wow I am happy for you and glad she did so splendid, Hope she finishes recovering well… Best wishe from Me and Willow.
hugs for you both! i agree, it is such a good feeling knowing that you are doing the best you can for her. and even tho she’s sore and brown (lol) she knows this deep down in her little bunny heart.
but still, i feel so sorry for the shaved bunnies…
Vibes for a quick recovery (((((( RAIN ))))))). How wonderful she is eating and I am amazed you can hold her…Shadow was a challenge to check his stitches. I had to get on the floor and wait for him to periscope to see if he was alright. LOL
She’s a brave girl and I’m sure she’ll be back to normal quite soon. She’ll be pristine white within a week. It’s temporary.
Maybe the tummy shave will feel cool to her.
What a sweetie. Vibes for a quick recovery.
Oh congrats to you and her! I’m glad everything went so smoothly.
Thanks everyone for the well wishes, i will of course pass them onto little miss Rain. The vet said I could give her access to the rest of her cage today (She knows its a 3 level very big cage) if she wants to go up higher in the cage she will but I can always do what I feel most comfortable doing. She was still locked on the bottom level this morning when I left for work though. She was still pretty ouchy and walking around like a little old lady. Rain is really good about letting us fuss with her, play with her (not today of course), exc.. she really is a well rounded little girl and a total sweet heart. Again, im so glad this is over and she can just heal up and go back to her normal happy go lucky self. Never do we have to worry about the hormonal girls, teenage years, exc. I do wonder if she would feel better if she had access to the rest of her cage, I know after my c-sections (no pain meds they make me nauseated) the faster i got moving around the faster i felt better… laying around made things way worse, nearly gave my nurses a heart attack though! hahaha
vibes for poor old rain! get well soon bunny!
Such a cute snap of her, the one of you holding her up! Glad everything went well! It’s very stressful while they are at the vets-I hate waiting !

2 days post surgery.. she has cleaned it up nicely
That looks great!
I thought so too!!! Im very pleased with the job they did and even more happy at the quick healing shes having. Aside from cleaning it up she really hasnt bothered it at all thankfully. I also dont think she looks as swollen either, what do you think?
Definitely less swollen. She’ll be right as Rain in no time.
wow it looks so much better.
Congratulations! Looks like Rain is doing very well post surgery and healing up. I am surprised the vet said allowed her to jump from level to level if she wanted. Has Rain been even doing that anyway?
Along with avoiding territorial moody teenage years, you also have eliminated the of cancer in her reproductive organs. (high cancer rates in that area for females)
Sending out healing vibes!
Keep us updated.
4 days post surgery and healing beautifully!!

approx 48-72hrs post surgery she was absolutly back to herself doing binkies, jumping up and down her cage, exc… the one complaint i do have is she pooing outside her litterbox. some of them are inside the box but shes mostly pooing outside her box, that is something she never did presurgery. She used to be perfect with her litter training and while her urine is still in her litter box shes pooing anywhere she wants! ![]()
wow she is doing great. The surgery site looks good. I dont’ think it is that much worse than doing a neuter. Seems fairly simple operations and small incision. Yes it is hard to keep them down for rest til they heal up. Yeah I am glad it is done and over so are you.
Oh the pooping. I wonder if it will stop when she is healed up. Maybe take a little while.
Ok, were 6 days post surgery and shes still doing great.. she did remove the scab and it makes it look fresh but in the up close pic you can see its healing very well… and the other pic is “raise your hand if your mom totally annoys you!”

it really does look great though!! Healing very very nicely. Im very happy with the job the vet did

I cant get over how fast her hair is growing back either!!
as for her pooping everywhere.. that seems to have passed too.. I just had to move her pellet bowl closer to the litter box ![]()
she looks fantastic…
Wow, I missed this thread with being out-of-town and not online a lot! Poor little Rain and her little bald tummy…that’s great that it’s healing so quickly! Such a cutie little girl!
I could barely bring myself to look at the incision at first! You are a great bunny mommy! ![]()
Thats great that she is doing so well so quickly! Females definitely have the tougher time recovering – so good job for Rain for recovering so fast
thanks everyone!! im so glad shes healing so well
Wow, thanks Adee, you’ve helped me alot cause my girl is coming back today from being spayed and now I know vaguely what to expect. I don’t know whether I’ve blocked out CHarlies nuetering but I don’t remember him looking like that. Her hair really is growing quick.
She really is the most beautiful rabbit. I love all the pics you post (yes, even these ones) Keep up the fantastic work!
Thanks!!
I hope your little girl does well today, i do know every vet is different and the spay incision might be larger but the main point of the post was to help
we will continue to take photos and keep everyone updated on her recovery. Would be nice to know how long it takes to fully heal.
This has been SUPER helpful for me, as well. Coco is one day post surgery and your pictures and stories have helped me tremendously in knowing what the curve of healing may look like.
Glad to know she is doing well, just keep checking her belly though because when Buffy was speyed she unpicked her stitches and we had to go down to the emergency vets at 4am. Also if you have any other bunnies apart from Rain they sometimes pick out each others stitches when thier grooming each other because they think the stitches shouldnt be there. But anyway hope she’s ok and bunny fur grows back really quickly =D
No problem baleful!! im glad your getting some use out of looking at the pics, dont make yourself crazy with it though because youve gotta remember every rabbit is different and what happened with rain might not with your bun.
binky, i will keep an eye on it
if you cant tell lol ive been keeping a pretty good eye on things. Also, she doesnt have external stitches.. they used glue ![]()
101 uses for Elmers!!! Glue – so funny.
Is a bunny licking the glue anything like a kid eating paste? (I’m losing it tonight. Sorry.)
lol… im not so sure. I would imagine it tastes terrible and this is like super surgical glue lol.. aint’ no elmers! I took another pic of her incision tonight, looks better and better everynight!

Pam, you think your kinda loosing it tonight, wait until you see the video of Little miss thing (Abbie) tonight!! What a naughty rabbit!!
Thanks for adding the pics, that’s helpful. I’m having Callie spayed next Friday, I hope she does as well as your Rain ![]()
Ill have to take another photo today or tomorrow.. shes healing more and more everyday
Rain: “Mooooom….you’re embarrassing me! You keep dangling me in front of the flashy box and showing your friends pictures of my private parts. I feel like a Playboy Bunny! I’m gonna make Abbie read this whole post right before SHE gets spayed…” (Passive Aggressive Revenge)
hahahaa….. i always think she rolls her eyes when i get the camera out… poor abbie is blinded with all the photos lately too. Rain got lucky, it started raining out so i couldnt abuse her with the camera too
I like your new avatar, btw.
Thanks Pam!!
Here is a photo of Rains belly 10 days post surgery
hahahaha, Rains favorite pose
