Spayed and Unspayed?

Hey all. So I get my new bun (Willow) sept 15th. She is a lop doe who will be 8 weeks at the time. I also have a lop doe (Nova) who will be about 4 months old come Willows gotcha day. I plan on keeping the girls in the same room, separate xpens (won’t be able to see each other at first, will start to let them see each other only when I’m ready to officially start prebonding).

My original plan was to have Nova spayed in November when she is 6 months, and then begin to bond the girls in December once Nova has time to recover. Then, when Willow turned 6 months I planned to have her spayed as well. 

After doing lots of research on bonding I’m starting to think it wouldn’t be a good idea to bond until they are both spayed and recovered. (Willow could get spayed in January, bonding would start February).

BASICALLY, I’m looking for insight from moms with bonded female pairs. Did you wait until they were both fixed? has anyone successfully bonded two does (one fixed, one not)? I know bonding female/female is the hardest pair, do you guys think I stand a better chance waiting until they’re both spayed?

Do not bond until both are spayed. I know, you want to see them bonded and have fun together but for the sake of keeping both of them safe and alive , you need to spay both. Instead of buying a bunny(we always push adopting as there are too many buns in the world homeless) you can adopt as they should already be spayed so you don’t have to have an additional 4 months plus recovery time (1 month) for the new baby.

I mean, you can always prebond before the spays but their behavior towards one another will be different before and after the spay as females are usually the most territorial( some boys can be but it depends on the personality). And of course the baby will act like it’s BFFs with the older one and then one day when the hormones kick in, start fighting with the older one and the older one can seriously hurt and kill the baby. Once they fight( before and after fixed, they can hold grudges and make bonding impossible) I know some have fixed and unfixed bonds, but please, get both spayed, it will save hours of cleaning up after them after they territorial pee and poop.

Yeah, I’m going to wait to bond them. Thanks for the reply. I am a big fan of adoption rather than buying but I am actually getting Willow from a breeder that I’m friends with. My next bun will be an adoption when I add to the family in the future. My research has agreed with your thoughts on waiting to bond, though. I’m going to keep them in xpens with blankets up to prevent seeing each other. They will be able to smell each other but the idea is not to give them the ability to see each other until I start the prebonding officially. (which will be after Willow is fully recovered from surgery). Thanks again.
