just dropped off pinky poo for her spay today.  only shed one lone tear on the drive home… i know she’s in good hands but i’ll miss her.  i don’t pick her up until 4:50pm tomorrow!  wahhh!  lol.  she’s got the noon to 5 free-roam shift (baby bun’s sleeping time) and i look forward to her antics now that her territory has spread throughout the house.  sure will be quiet in here.

my vet is going to call as soon as she’s out of surgery & the anesthetics which i believe will be mid afternoon.  fingers crossed it goes well!

Wow, they keep her overnight! Keep us updated – I know she will be just fine. She will be a little displeased with you tomorrow however :~)

yeah i was surprised they keep her overnight too!   she said they do that because they want to ensure the bunny has eaten and pooped before they send them off home.  after reading about others anticipating post-spay poops and being a nervous nellie, this works fine for me.  lol.  late afternoon is when the vet has consult times to go over after-spay care so thats why she’s in for so long.

I’m actually off to pick up my girlfriend’s bunny for his neutering today. They’ll keep him overnight too. If there’s any powers of fate, they won’t let anything happen to this one. With the last two dying within a month of being altered, she says that she’ll just give up on buns if it happens again. Just too much emotional trauma.

Good news is that he’s has a great diet, is in great health and is under a year old so hopefully that will help.

oh wow!  markusdark i can’t believe you convinced her into neutering her bunny.  i’m sending special ((((((vibes)))))) out to him that everything goes smoothly.  your girlfriend really needs to have a good experience with altering a pet!

i’m such a pain in the you-know-what.  i just had a long business phone call & wondered if the vet called with any news about pinky while i was on the phone.  my call answer has 2 mailboxes… one business & one personal.  i get tonnes of messages a day & realized i forgot to specify for the vet’s office to leave a message in my personal voice mailbox.  so i called them to be sure.  that way if they leave a message while i’m on the phone it’ll be easier to find.  i’m quite certain they think i’m nuts in that office… i act weird when i’m in there most times because i’m all anxious.  lol.

                    anyways…

when i called in the vet tech said pinky *just* went in for her procedure.   how long do spays take on average i wonder?  hope my girl is doing well!

I don’t know how long it is, short I think; Lisa would know for sure, she watched her bunnies get the snips!

Markus Awesome job convinciing your girlfriend to neuter!!! *VIBES*

Wow, lots of Spay/Neutering going on in BinkyBunny land.  I had Denali neutered yesterday.  He came through with flying colors.

                        Good luck with your babies!

just heard from the vet… pinky’s doing great!   yahoo!

she made it through very very well & is chillin with her iv at the moment.  dr. buhrows said she’s just about to be fed.  apparently her uterus was sorta lumpy – not cancerous tumors – but possibly pre-cancerous.  and her vulva was really large *snickers* indicating that she must’ve been in a good strong hormonal phase.  so dr buhrows said it’s a good good thing she was spayed now… she’ll be so much happier

                          phew.  what a relief.

she was apparently 6 months old when dropped off at the humane society which would make her about 10 months old now

Wow, that’s awful that at such a young age she was already pre-cancerous. That’s just not right :~(

I know at the sanctuary we recently took in 2 females for spays – 3 years old and I think around 6 years old and they had some issues too so I was glad we had taken them in for their spay too.

Well Fitz is out of surgery. Doc says everything went just fine. He is currently ‘eating in his sleep’. He’s still very groggy from the surgery and is falling asleep again but he’s still chewing on the leafy greens as he does so.

i’m very pleased to hear your GF is allowing Fitz to be neutered. i will say a prayer for her and the bun that everything goes smoothly and that bun lives to be 20 years old.

i’m very happy that she’s eating a bit. maybe they removed the part of the bun anatomy that causes thumps? lol… no i doubt it, you’ll have plenty of thumps at home i’m sure.

umm… he’s chewing on leafy greens in his dreams you mean?  or he is actually sleeping & eating?  (thinking i’m over-tired & missing the joke… lol)

I mean he’s actually eating the greens while he’s sleeping.  Apparently though, this is nothing new.  He moves his head while sleeping over to the plate with the greens and nibbles on them without waking up.  Strange bun…

I just got off the phone with the clinic.  He’s eaten all of his pellets and his greens however no poops yet.  Dr. Harvey says that the appetite is the important thing and the sans-poop could simply be because he’s not comfortable using the potty in a strange place.  I’m going to go get him in a couple of hours.  I am glad I work for hippies at the Dept. of Energy since they allow me a bit of leeway with my schedules.

Oh, and as for Pinky’s thumping – I think that the operations do change thumping habits.  With Georgie, she never thumped until after her operation, then it was thumping all the time.

wow.  good thing *i* don’t eat while i sleep!  i’d be 500lbs by now   fitz sure is a little character isn’t he?  lol.

since i’ve seen baby’s xray that showed all her poops lined up to come out i appreciate how even a short bit of not eating (during surgery & recovery) would slow down the poop production.  not to mention not pooping in a strange place.  glad to hear you’re going to pick him up soon.  i’m sure the poops will come once he’s tucked in at home.

i’d love to put a pick-up count-down clock up   too bad my brain computer-technically stunted.  lol.

Well Fitz is back at home. He took a little while to get out of the carrier but then sniffed around a bit then went to hide under the couch as normal.

I think the hardest thing in his recovery will be keeping my girlfriend from trying to pick him up and hold onto him 24/7. Luckily, when she’s feeling bad or something puts her out of sorts, she likes to become a hermit so I managed to explain to her that’s what buns do. Give him time and he’ll come back out and be a happy bun again.

For the life of me I don’t know why!! But now, both are forward…unless of course you cross her! LOL

today was pinky’s post-spay check-up & all is very well.  yay.  all of her internal stitches are holding up (phew… wondered if she’d busted them with her jailbreak) and her incision is healing nicely.  her weight is okay although she hasn’t lost any since i’ve had her & restricted her pellets to 1/4 cup a day.  which is a little wierd.  maybe it’s time to cut down on the 3 raisins / day for treats?  now that i don’t need to keep checking her incision (she’d stand up tall so i could see her incision while reaching for a raisin) it’ll be easy to cut that down to 1 per day or 1 every other day.
