hello this is my first time posting. My bunbun Tootoo is 8 years old. She was on carpet for almost all of the past 8 years. She did have a cage but that was only for hay and bathroom. She’s always been a pretty clean bun with occasional accidents. This May, I found her peeing on carpets a few times and noticed that she became reluctant to go into her cage to eat and use the bathroom. So I checked her and saw her hocks were bald and red. Took her to a few different vets and along with posts from binky forum, I suspected the carpet to be the culprit.

I then layered her entire living area with fleece blanket + some cushion mats. Also removed the cage and DIYed her a new bathroom+hay rack corner using a storage bin. Now she no longer needs to hop in and out the cage to eat hay and use bathroom. It’s now been 3 months and her hocks are looking better.

Im trying to attach pictures here.

Two things that can really help are 1) lose weight to the bottom end of the healthy range and 2) regular massage with Sudocrem or similar diaper rash ointment

In extreme cases, little socks bound on with vet wrap help too, but it’s no longer the case for you

Thank you. She has been improving and her feet don’t seem to bother her as much.

Q8 is right about the weight thing, it can make a huge difference. Also if you have bleeding hocks and can’t get bandages to stay on, liquid band aid is a really helpful alternative!

I have mine on foam mats because carpet was causing issues too, so I think you did the right thing changing the flooring. Her feet look great now!

Thank you Tony Mum. She has become more active since we changed the flooring. As for weight she is on the skinny side.
