I have mice, which I don’t want, and a rabbit, which I do want.     Will sonic pest repellant electronic devices be a good technique for scaring off the mice without bothering my bun bun?  I have one and I have plugged it in next to my rabbit.  She does not seem to react.  Is this a good enough sign that it isn’t disturbing her?

        Thanks for your time.

To tell you the truth I think rabbits can hear the sonic noises, they have very good hearing and my guess would be that they can hear it. Dogs can hear it so I bet rabbits can too.

Well, the box specifically states that it will not affect dogs, cats, etc. There is a warning that says, keep away from pet tarantulas, mice, gerbils, and hamsters, but no bunnies. I know someone that accidentally plugged hers in next to a tarantula and she said that it freaked out instantly.

oh, sorry.  searched, but could not find the thread.  I don’t know how the devices are commonly referred to.

Is that certain?  Now the search is returning an error.  Can’t find anything!  Please help!  My in-laws are coming next weekend, and I don’t want to have to set mouse traps, and none of the other humane pest control options have worked.

Everything I’ve read has said they don’t actually work to repell rodents so I don’t know if they’d actually bother bunnies at all.

Since you already have the device, contact the company. They may have dealt with this query before or had feedback from customers. I found a thread on bunnies + mice if that helps any. https://binkybunny.com/FORUM/tabid/54/forumid/2/tpage/1/view/topic/postid/45329/Default.aspx#45866

Use the search function in the green bar. “search” is in small, red font. I believe the larger search box at top of page is not working.

A novel approach that I’ve heard works is to put some snake droppings about the house. Sounds awful, I know but apparently the mice disappear if they suspect a predator in the house. If you try this, get droppings from a friend with a pet snake or a reptile park. Maybe put it discreetly in paper bags in various corners. If the bag is lying sideways and open, the mice may investigate and find the “bad news” . Weird, I know, but hey, it’s humane!

I found a description of a sonic-type pest repellant on amazon.com and it stated that you can use it to repel rabbits in your yard, so I believe that your bunny can probably hear that. I recently was researching some organic ways to repel mice, and agree with jerseygirl, if you put around scents of a predator it is supposed to repel mice.

I was at Lowe’s a few days ago and saw this type of pest repellent in their garden section – it was not snake droppings, but another kind of spray that had the scents of predators.

OK, it operates at frequencies over 20,000-30,000 hz which is why we can’t hear it…(we hear tops 20,000hz)
Rabbits hear 360-42,000 hz so they would definitely hear the device.

absolutely contact the company. keep in mind that in general, rabbits are still not accepted as house pets. if it cannot be used around small animals, hamsters, gerbils, my guess would be that it should not be used near rabbits either. after contacting the company and asking directly, i’d ask if there is a number or email you can contact to make suggestions, use this to encourage them to include house rabbits in their list of warnings.

As I understood the warnings on the product itself, it says not to you where you have small pets like rabbits, hamsters and like pets.

They really don’t work for anything. I work in an R&D facility for a pest control company and have tested them. They just waste electricity. Here’s the previous thread for them.

I would not use it around your rabbits. Like others have mentioned it is not recommended for use around rabbits or cats and I have had mixed results with it anyhow.
