My newest food addiction…although I kind of doubt I’ll be able to satisfy it more than once a year, when bags of these are all over the produce area of the store…

Yup, you guessed it. Nuts. (Okay, don’t go there….)

I bought five different varieties of shelled and unshelled nuts this last Christmas because I can remember my dad roasting chestnuts for me every year. Since we have no fireplace here, I had to go for the standbys: walnuts, almonds, brazil nuts, pistachios and my new number one favorite…PECANS!

This actually makes a great snack. Because if you get the ones that have to be shelled, then by the time you’ve cracked enough of them to make your hands hurt, you aren’t as hungry anymore and therefore don’t eat enough to add the pounds. Eh?

Yes, I realize nuts have more calories than most foods, but I just can’t stop eating these unshelled pecans. They are SO good. I’ve had pecan pie, it doesn’t compare with these.

Now the only thing I have to be careful about is, usually I crack the pecans on a paper plate in my room on the bed near Fiver’s pen. (I hope I’m not making the poor guy nervous.) I am VERY careful not to get any shells in his pen or left on any surface he might find them on. But just in case, are the shells a toxic thing that I would have to worry about him ingesting? (Not that I really think he would, but you never know.)

What (or who) is YOUR favorite nut?

Oh BT, that must’ve been cool! ^_^ Did the horses ever go over and pick up the fallen nuts off the ground to eat? I always wondered that.
Hazelnut…Mmmmm! I like hazelnut flavor in just about anything, coffee, cookies, you name it, it adds the pounds…. *sigh*

Peanuts roasted in the shell, yum! ^_^ My mum was a HUGE SF Giants fan back in the day. (Yah, I know, don’t laugh…if I still had that little signed Willie Mays bobblehead doll lying around here I’d be set for life!) She was on a par with the best heckler in the crowd, calling for the umpires to get glasses or get thrown out of the game and screaming “23 Skiddoo!” when someone from our team hit a homer. It was almost embarrassing to go to a game with her. But whether it was there or at the circus, I remember getting the peanuts…good eatin’! ^_^

Jerz! lolz…Would you like salt on those wingnuts? xD

My favorite nut is almonds, although like you said they are high in fat & calories, I opt for tamari roasted pumpkin seeds and they hit the spot!

No I don’t recall the horses ever eating the pecans just me and my cousins.

Ah yes, cashews. That’s hubby’s big joy. He’ll eat a whole bag (at least a pound) right in front of me. Not good for his pancreatitis though.

Tamari? What is that? :-/ I love pumpkin seeds, but the hulls get stuck in my throat and teeth. >.<

lolz…Pam I only like peanut butter when it’s first been opened. Once it’s refrigerated…yuck! Cute lil’ “partay-bun” in your siggy! ^_^

Oh, and what can one do with pistachios? Can they be used for recipes? They’re okay right out of the bag, but after about ten of them I can’t taste anything anymore…*giggle*
