Hello everyone, a rabbit was recently rehomed to me, and I instantly noticed something strange about her right eye. It seems to go down, making the whites of her eyes show on top. It’s worse when she looks down or is hopping and her left eye does not have this problem. I wasn’t able to find anything about this and it’s worrying me. ): Does anyone have any idea what this is caused by or has experienced this? I really appreciate any advice/help!

Potentially a rabbit version of a lazy eye? Have you booked an appt with a rabbit vet?

            Is it constant?

She has an appointment this Monday.

And yes it’s pretty constant. Sometimes it’s normal when she’s resting, but most of the time it’s like this.

Wick may be right, possibly a lazy eye? Hopefully everything is okay at the vets, she’s a beautiful little bun!

Almost looks like aniridia (incomplete) to me. It’s a congenital defect where part of the iris does not develop. I think Medirabbit has an article.

My REW gets that when he is looking at something sometimes but not constant. If she’s new to your home, she should have a vet wellness check anyways so you could have the vet look at it.

                    Super cute bunny!!!!

                      Here it is:
                      http://www.medirabbit.com/EN/Eye_diseases/Congenital/Incomplet_iris_en.pdf

The article focuses on Dutch rabbits, but it can occur in any breed.

Thank you everyone for all the responses! I read the article took a better look at her eye. Her iris looks to be completely developed and I checked to see if her pupil responds to light, which it did, so incomplete aniridia hopefully isn’t the case. Of course, that isn’t something I can say for sure. I’ll post an update when she is checked tomorrow. (:

That’s good news! Nothing to worry about if it’s just a lazy eye.
