        Hi Everyone,

Im just wondering if anyone could help me…My 5month old bunny is at the vet right now getting neutered and im getting abit nervous about him coming home. I want to make sure everything is perfect and dont want to do anything that could harm or upset him. I read the thread about hammers neuter and found it really helpful. There are a couple more things i would like to check.

Henry doesnt have a 2nd level to his enclosure but he does have a wooden corner house which i have removed because he always jumps up on it as it gives him a good view. Was i right in taking this out? i dont want him exerting himself. We also have a corner cat litter tray which is quite high to prevent messes. The front opening is quite low but im afraid he will rub his wound off it as he gets in and i dont want anything causing friction in that area Instead i have put in a kitten tray with just newspaper in it as the nurse said not to put any bedding in as it might stick around the wound. I usually use carefresh. is carefresh ok post surgery?im just afraid now that iv changed too many things. the only thing that has remained the same is his fleece blanket and teddy bears!!!

One more thing…Henry doesnt like to be picked up.he always struggles to get down but loves to be petted on my lap. what would be the best way to check his wound site without stressing him out too much?

Sorry about all the questions…im just being a stressed out mammy i think. hope he will be okay

We know the feeling -don’t worry!!

Yes, taking that house out is a good idea, just to restrict how active he is for the first few days. Clean his cage/enclosure (it’ll keep ya from worrying idly by) for when he gets home. Have his favorite veggies on hand to entice him to eat (some of them don’t want to after surgery but it’s the best thing for them!

Have someone help you check the incision. Hold him firmly and just stand him up on his hind legs. One looks quickly at the suture/incision to ensure it’s not discolored, pussy or inflamed. Have a good light since you want to take a quick peek and not upset him!

Thats great, thanks for the advice. Well Henry is just home now and he seems okay. He isnt being his usual friendly self though and seems abit cautious but i wouldnt really blame him. Im probably not his favourite person at the mo The nurse told me that he will be back to normal tomorrow and that i didnt need to limit his excercise at all but i will go with my own judgement on that i think. She also said i didnt need to bring him back for a check up but i booked him in for one next week anyway. He got the stitches that dissolve…are these ok?

Yes the dissolving stitches are fine! Sounds like he’s doing good, I don’t think they’d cop an attitude if anything was wrong No follow up check up is *necessary* if the stiches dissolve but it will certainly put your mind at ease so that’s not a bad idea at all!

Thanks for the reassurance…got up this morning and Henry seems in better form. He is eager to come out but im gonna have to hold off on that for another few days. he is nibbling away at his veg and pellets. havent seen him eat any hay yet. I rang the vet this morning as i was abit concerned that there were still no poops or wet patches. He said that once he is bright and alert and eating the rest should follow. If he hasnt pooped by tomorrow then he said to bring Henry in. Will keep ye updated on his progress. Thanks again Im getting a new camera finally at the weekend so will be able to post some pics of him next week!

You sound like you have taken care of everything.  Yes just monitor him for the next few days.  I continued to use the carefresh post spay & neuter.  I found the biggest concern was monitoring his eating & drinking.  He was ready to hip hop by the day after, but the vet suggested I keep him limited so he was continued on cage rest.  Waiting for those pics……..
