What size leash should I get Bamber? He’s almost 4 lbs.

What should I avoid when taking him outside? (besides treated grass)

And I know some rabbits hate using leashes, but do some actually like going on walks?

Any other advice you have will be appreciated

I’m not sure what size you will need, but please be careful. Rabbits have either escaped or been injured on leashes. They can spook and then when they try to get awa,y they get tangled. A preferable method to allow your bun some outside time would be to take an xpen out there and supervise while he plays. Some rabbits don’t mind the leash but they are not going to walk like a dog would. I’d recommend that if you try one, do it inside the house for the first several times to see how he reacts.

Yeah, but x-pens are too small for him to really have fun in. And Bamber is not normal, and never gets spooked lol.

Idk. I’m not even sure if I’m going to get a leash. I was just thinking up ideas to add more variety to Bamber’s life. I guess I’ll have to think of a different way to do that…

I agree with Beka above concerns- and when Cotton was younger I debated about leash training her and ultimately decided against it.

You would first want to train Bamber in the house, and then when Bamber is comfortable enough to go outside- then choose a quiet area with no other animals- dogs or cats.  Prefereably even a fenced in area.  Be aware of any extremes in temperatures that Bamber may not be used to.

Leash training a bun is really a personal preference- I see the dangers but have also seen some super cute photos of bunnies enjoying their leash time.  I decided to bring the outdoors in- and brought snow into the bathtub for our bunnies to experience- and have allowed our buns outside in a dog crate with the botton tray removed so they can access the grass/dirt.

The jacket type I dont’ trust them.  They look real nice but when Cotton panicked he goes backwards when he hits the end of the leash and the body part slides right over his legs.

The string type works better.  It is adjustable too.  It really isn’t a string I use string for not finding a better word.  I guess a cotton harness type leash.  It is a one piece.

Ruby loves to go for a romp on her leash.  She goes in straight lines.  Unusual.  Your calm bunny sounds like Ruby.

They took to  their leashes right away.  As far as walking them you end up following them around. They can wear you out too tehheee. Running here n there and back again.

When I do take Cotton out he goes to the dock he doesnt’ panic there. I won’t put him on the ground again. But thats just Cotton Boo.

A rabbit can panic so bad they don’t recognize you only escape is in their minds.

Oh I just remembered…  I do put them in harness when I take them places even tho they are  carried or in the carrier the whole time.

It is a reassuring feeling to know that if by some strange off the wall thing happens and they jump out my arms they won’t go far. Just a security back up
