This first one features a fur breed I don’t recognise. Anyone know it? Pic is a Aus/NZ calendar cover, think those rabbits are New Zealanders….funny thing is, their bellies look like the NZ bird, the Kiwi.

Speaking of birds, next pics are of a homing pidgeon that took some wild rabbit kits under it’s wing – yes, they are rabbits! Though I don’t know if this actually happened……does look like a photo shoot.

An Almost Hairless Bunny born in Melbourne, Australia.

Lastly, a game of Spot the Bunny!
“Go Dash-it, Go Darn-it, Oh Blast-it you’re Vexin’! On Grommet, On Stupid, Dumber and Ditzin!”

Yes, the white Angora is obvious but did you see her baby?
“Bubby?” What’s a bubby?
That first picture is really cool…I wonder what kind of bun it is?
Her Baby! Bubby is Baby! I’ll edit that!
OMG! 0_o I don’t know what breed that first one is, Jerz, but I WANT ONE! 0_o How beautiful! What a shame that’s a calendar from a few years ago, I’d love to see more of those. Did all these piccies come from the same calendar?
Awes, the hairless is too cute! How funny they made a little overcoat for it!
Love the “Santa Bun”. ^_^
And I dont’ know if the angora’s pic is just not coming out all the way for me or what, but I can’t see the “bubby”…lolz. (That quite cute really.) I take it it’s at the bottom of the shot.
Ooo, ooo! Is it the black shadow on her back?!
Bingo!
At first I thought it was the kinda extra fluffy white part in the middle – but yes, it’s the little dark one sleeping on her back!
*peers at photo* My stupid old eyes can just barely make it out. Thanks for the hint, LC! Oh gosh, that’s adorable! ^_^
Awww, I almost want an angora! But only if it’s black… And somebody else does all the grooming…

OMG that hairless bun is the cutest thing ever! I want one
I’m amused by the tiny felt vest on that hairless(ish) baby bun.
MM, the pictures aren’t all from that calendar (i think?)> I got them all from petrabbitworld.com.au a breeder/author/bunny lover here in Aus. Hope that not big no-no to copy pics and paste here….they weren’t watermarked or copyrighted as far as I could tell.
The Santa bunny reminds me of Boston’s Christmas photos!
There was another hairless rabbit story. He lived for a bit but didn’t make it. This one seems to be doing better. I don’t know when that story was printed, it is within the last 6 months. I might try find more info on it though. By the way, her name in Cliffordette, formerly known as Clifford! Lol!
OMG, that hairless bunny is pretty much the cutest thing I’ve ever seen. And he’s wearing a coat! I wonder what causes that, please try to find more info, I hope the little guy is alright.
I really enjoyed all the other pics too.
Sadly it’s due to inbreeding. I think both cases were accidental – let’s hope! There was a normal furred sibling in the other hairless rabbit story I mentioned.

Wish I hadn’t gone looking for more info……turns out the owner posted about her hairless rabbit on a Python and Snake Forum. Though members did comment about the cuteness and uniqueness of this rabbit, there was the inevitable comments made about……well you know…..I don’t even want to say it! If Cliffordette survived she was going to be kept so that’s good.
I, in no way mean to imply I think all reptile lovers/owners are rabbit haters – I’m sure there are many that are just plain old animal lovers no matter the species. I’m just leery of comments made about rabbits I see from time to time…….especially on YouTube when someone posts a vid of their beloved pet bunny and people make really awful comments about snakefood.
There were some more pics on that forum but you have to be a member to access them. I might join with a username that has a message but I’m at a loss! (EDIT: Pictures are the same. He is 6 wks old/Sept 08) Anyway, this is the comments the owner made bar one line.
This is Clifford he is nearly six weeks old…is’nt he cute!!
He keeps himself warm by snuggling in between his brothers and sisters
who are totally fluffy…aww![]()
We just love him!!
All rabbits are born hairless…when the litter started to grow hair they were all
pretty fluffy but Clifford had fuzz which he lost after a few weeks.
l’ve read that its a genetic mutation which can be fatal in some babies….so only
time will tell to whether he survives, grows fur or stays bald.
l’m interested to see how he goes!!
Cliffords mother and father are both Giant rabbits…
Ah-ha! I think I have discovered what that breed is in the first picture: Enderby Island Rabbits, a very rare breed.
For those interested… http://www.dorabbiton.co.nz/template.cfm
The hairless rabbit we have a recent post on that hairless racoon will have something on hairless baby buns too.
OH that angora looks like my Ruby except for the fur on her ears. OH I love that angora.
I prayed for an angora so God gave me one through Ruby. Now maybe if I pray for ear fringes she will grow some. lol.
I’ll keep trying the link, Jerz, but for me it’s not coming up. Could you paste the info here when you get a chance for us dial-uppers please? ^_^ Thankies!
Umm….the files are too big for me to attach and I’m not sure how else to do it… I’ll give you the long hand link data to see if that is any better navigating you to the info.
http://www.dorabbiton.co.nz/template.cfm?page=32&sub=53 Also try http://www.dorabbiton.co.nz then click on “South Island”
also
http://www.rarebreeds.co.nz/endrabbitspro.html
if this fails….try google Enderby Island Rabbits….sorry, it’s best I know how!
oh gosh, the almost-hairless rabbit is so ugly it’s cute!!!
Thanks Jerz! Sorry, I didn’t mean to put you out. I should’ve thought to just Google them myself. *smacks forehead*
Hm. I wonder if they still export them?
I thought Australia/NewZealand/Auckland discouraged wild rabbit populations? (Isn’t that why myxomatosis was introduced?) Hard to believe they’ve been there since the 1800’s! 0_o
EDIT: Okay, I just read the rescue page. Didn’t realize they had purged the islands. ![]()
So the 49 they took off were the only ones left? Wow. ;_; That’s so sad. They are such beautiful rabbits!
Oh gosh, I didn’t read that about the purge… the old pics of them on the island reminded me of Lord of the Rings and the little Hobbit houses. Should say ‘Hoppit houses’…
MM, no worries, I woulda like to have posted the info better but didn’t know how lol
Apparently the only place outside of NZ that has these rabbits is Texas.
