Some bonding Q’s

I want to start bonding Bindi and Olivia soon. The thing is I won’t be able to get Olivia fixed for a while until my bf is done college. Is it much more difficult to bond a fixed male to an intact female? I know it will probably be easier if she’s fixed but is it worth trying? Olivia’s pen is on the floor and when I let Bindi out to visit a penned Olivia, Bindi is very curious and seems content enough to see another bunny. Olivia sticks her nose as far as she can through the bars and growls but eventually ignores him. This is the only thing I’ve done with them so far.

Also, this is the dream: to bond all THREE of my buns: Stormy (neutered 4 year old Mini-Rex), Bindi (neutered 1 year old Mini-Lop) and Olivia (soon to be spayed small mixed bunny approx 1 year old. Is this dream way out of reach? Stormy is quite an agressive little guy and has been alone for 4 years.

I really want to bond them because it’s so hard trying to find time to let three rabbits out for adequate exercise. I feel so guilty when I let one out, the others look so sad while they wait for their turn

i’d really wait until she was spayed. if she is being so aggressive thru the bars, i wouldn’t want to take a chance at someone getting hurt. plus females can have false pregnancies. i don’t know a lot about this… but they exhibit all the signs of being pregnant (moodiness, aggression, territorial, hair-pulling), i believe it has to do with them being induced-ovulators, but i might be wrong. and if the experience is really really bad, this might prevent them from getting along after she is spayed.

Though I have heard of this working, I also double ditto Beka, because false pregnancies could be an issue. I understand your frustration though, it is very difficult to have all those separate pens – so much less space, much less free time out for the bunnies as they have to share time out, and much more cleaning time. I really get it. How long is it that you have to wait to get her spayed as that really would be the ideal choice.

I wonder if it’s possible to start the bonding process for Bindi and Stormy. Maybe you can bond them first and bond Olivia when she’s ready. I would start by putting the two cages in close distance so that they can see/smell each other. Many rabbits will enjoy a companion rather than living alone since they are social animals.

Maybe I will try that. I’ve had Bindi for a year but never tried to bond them because Stormy is so nasty sometimes but I guess I’ll never know unless I try. Of course I will have to start very slow and make sure Bindi doesn’t get hurt.

Hi – I am a big fan of ths site and need some advice. I have allergies and have 1 pet rabbit (who I worhsip) and am thinking of taking another bun from a friend of my sisters. Has anyone with bad allergies gotten a second bunny? How have you/do you feel. I am also concerned about Baby since is she very sweet and I don’t want to upset her — the second bunny is also female. Thoughts on bonding the 2 females? I love being a bunny slave but am mainly concerned that the second rabbit may put me into a really bad allergy state. I take 2 meds every day the way it is and can’t be put on anything stronger. The other bunny is being neglected – it’s about 1.5 yrs old and is left alone in a cage 24/7 – and has never been out of it’s cage before and I am just heart sick about this poor little thing………Thanks –BunnyMama
