hi everyone, my bun’s fecal pellets been wonky lately. The consistency of her fecal droppings had been erratic, sometimes its normal and sometimes its mushy soft or moist but formed and sometimes there are uneaten cecotropes around the litter box. I’ve layed off the pellets and she’s on a hay diet (timothy 1st cut) also, gave her half a vial of ERCEFLORA. 3 x a day. Has anyone experienced this? Can anyone help me what should i do? Going to the vet is not an option for me cause we dont have a rabbit savvy vet here. We live in a poor island. Hope someone can help me im kinda desperate. Thanks in advance 🤍

The poops on the right side of the first photo don’t actually look that bad. There is definitely more variability in the 2nd photo that is more concerning, but I don’t think it’s an immediate emergency, unless you begin seeing diarrhea.  I am not familiar with what you administered, so I cannot give any guidance on that.

How much hay is she eating, and is there anything in her diet besides hay and those pellets (ex. veggies, treats)? Also, what type of pellets are they? In general, increasing hay intake (which increases fiber) will create more dry, solid poops, which is what we want. Is she generally eating and pooping normally, as well as good normal energy levels?

Hey thanks for replying. It’s been a week and her fecal droppings are still intermittent. She’s been on a hay & water diet. She still eats her hay and drinks water. Her energy has changed a bit tho. Not as playful as when she was okay. I reintroduce her to her usual pellets (momi complete-a for young rabbits https://www.kohepets.com.sg/products/momi-complete-a-young-rabbit-food-1kg) when i saw just firm and dry droppings but after that the soft and mushy ones appeared, again. Its frustrating. Im still giving her erceflora half a vial 3x a day (probiotics for humans as we dont have pet stores selling probiotics for animals here) the progress i see is that it lessen the excessive cecotropes shes depositing but the mushy fecal pellets are still very present. Btw i dont feed her any greens. It  makes her bloat for some reason so i stopped feeding long ago.

I assume that is a probiotic of some kind?

You could cut out the pellets again and put her back on the hay and water diet. There could be something in the pellets that doesn’t agree with her, or it could be that you didn’t keep her on the hay and water diet long enough for her gut to reestablish a sturdy gut microbiome.

Some rabbits are prone to GI-upset. The probiotic you have been giving is called bacillus clausii. I cant find anything about its use in rabbits. If you feel it its making a difference you can keep giving it.

                  How old is your rabbit?

I sometimes give small amounts of pellets like 3 pcs as a treat coz i feel bad that she’s been on a hay diet for 5 days now. Also reintroducing it to her hoping her gut is back functioning to normal. Is it okay keeping her on a hay diet for weeks? I fear she’ll lose weight and get weaker because shes not getting enough nutrients from such simple diet 😞

The probiotic im administering is known for curing rabbit diarrhea here in the philippines.

im not quite sure coz she’s a rescue.  I think she’s  5-6 months old now.
