I was online looking at this website to try to figure out what happened to my flemish giant’s siblings, by trying to find the same ad. While looking for this I came across this lady trying to sell around 6 bunnies, if she couldn’t find anyone to buy them they were going to go to meat.

I was really upset about this and became determined to save them. I contacted my state’s rabbit rescue and the lady who posted the ad to get them.

However, the rabbit rescue told me that they just don’t associate with breeders, so they won’t take any of them. This made me so upset I couldn’t believe it.

So now i’m stuck with the decision if I should still rescue one myself.

I was interested in the flemish mix boy she had, or maybe a new zealand girl?

My flemish girl I currently have is too young to be spayed yet. So I don’t know what I should do. Get the new one neutered right away because he’s a year old?

Should I just leave the lady alone completely? Please give me advice!!!!!

I would not buy a rabbit from her – this is a cycle that will continue over and over. It’s true that rabbit rescues won’t save from breeders simply for that reason. If you try to “save” these rabbits, the breeder is going to turn around and just do the same thing over and over. It’s so sad and I understand why you feel you would want to do this, but it doesn’t stop the problem.

I too agree with Sarita. Rescues don’t want anything to do with breeders because that is where the homeless cycle begins. Not all breeders are bad, but adopting from a shelter opens up a space for the next rabbit to be in the shelter after you adopt one out.

I would definitely wait on getting another rabbit for the time being and get your girl spayed when she is of age. Get to know your bun, and bond with her You will be surprised by how social they are. When the time comes to get another bunny, take her to the shelter and allow her to pick out her own pal.

Thank you guys for the advice i genuinely appreciate it. This has been bothering me so much lately.

Even though it’s extremely hard for me to do, I don’t think i’m going to get them. I simply can’t afford to purchase all of them, as I’m trying to save up for Heina’s spay. Also I don’t have the resources to transport 5 bunnies at one time.

As for a friend for my female bun, I’m going to wait til after Easter in spring time when the rescues are full from Easter bunny abandonments and when Heina’s all recovered from her spay. And then i’m going to take her to find a man hahhaha. I need to get her ear problems sorted out before i get a friend for her.

I may have you mixed up with another member, if so, I apologize and disregard this… but were you the one who was having behavioral issues with your flemish giant? I know you’ve decided to not get any of these rabbits, but I just wanted to say I agree that you’re making the right decision. First of all, you don’t want to support a breeder when there are so many rabbits in need of loving homes. Second, it sounds like your flemish girl needs some training and help in getting through her spay and teenager stage. Give her the attention she needs now before stretching yourself any thinner.
