When I got off work this morning I had a voicemail I couldn’t quite understand but I thought I heard “a bunny” and Holiday. A little confused, I came home and e-mailed Save A Bunny rescue.
Several hours have gone by now and I was just about asleep when my cell phone rang. I let the voicemail catch the message…
Bottom line, S.A.B is FULL and they have someone pretty insistant on surrendering their 7-8 month old splay legged girl bunny – would I be interested?
Looks like Holiday may be getting a new roomie if everything pans out well!
Awwwwwww! That would be so sweet! Keep us updated!
My friend has a splayed leg bunny named Pip – he is adorable and quite the trooper. He does so well considering his condition.
Good luck to you!
Let me know if you need any help on this end, Leaf. I can hop over to SAB any evening and usually any weekend too.
Awww that’s soo sweet of you to take another!!
Now I can’t wait for pictures of the little sweetie!
Wow, that is awesome Leaf! We are all so crowded with bunnies here in California, and SaveABunny and The Rabbit Haven have taken in a lot of bunnies in the last 2 months.
And this is also around the time that people who got the Easter buns begin to decide they don’t want them anymore…
Me too if you need help I’m right here in Mill Valley! Seriously I’d be happy to help. You are such an angel to take these splayed leggers! How’s your bun doing anyway?
OMG, is that kismet or what?? 0.o
Oh I sure hope this works out okay. I bet Hols would love a little lady friend! ^_^
And how are he and your Flemmie doing?
I don’t know how it’ll all work out right now but I emailed Joann this morning. Do you know her, markusdark?
Anyhow, when I adopted Holiday and Fiesta the bunderground was slow and we had a hard time getting them a flight but eventually a pilot used his day off to jump several states back and forth to fly them to St Louis.
Everything is sketchy now since we’re still learning about the girl but I definantly hope everything works out and she makes it here soon.
Timing may be rough, my SIL is due to have her 1st baby on the 29th of April but I want this to work. I may see if angoragrl would be willing to pick her up at the airportif she is flying in when everything gets hectic here.
Of course this is all an assumption on the rabbit being flown out. I’m SO excited though!!
Leaf…I was thinking about this last night and Y’all are probably going to say this is a dumb idea (because it sort of is) but I was thinking…
The problem for splay legged bunnies living a long time is that they can’t support their weight, and eventually get too heavy…Beached whales/dolphins also have this problem, as they were designed to be in a denser medium then air (water) to support their heavy organs, and can only be out of water for a short time otherwise it all gets smooshed (for lack of better word-english was not my strong subject)
I’m wondering, if some sort of life jacket-floaty thing could be designed for them, maybe they could spend time in a pool, where their organs would be supported by the water and ease the pressure on them, possibly extending their lives?? Of course it would have to have a nice head support-maybe like a doggie life jacket…But maybe something along these lines could possibly help?
Ok, just a random out there idea!! ![]()
I do know Joanne. She’s the main ‘nurse’ at SAB. She’s the one who handles dishing out all the meds for the various buns. I believe she has 5 of her own at home and spends at least 3 hours a day over at SAB.
BTW, I would be willing to fly with the bun out to MO and pay up to $200 of the ticket to do it. I also think that there are some people here who can find a way to get the new bun papers showing that he/she is a ‘therapy bun’ and thereby bypass any restrictions of animals that airlines have.
Markusdark – Maybe we could all donate some miles to get you a free ticket?
I’ve got some miles…
Let me know if I’m in an area where you may need assistance from.
If 5 of us donated 5,000 miles each we would be able to get a free ticket. I have my miles on United. Markusdark, if you could find out if there is a flight to Minnesota on United and if you could bring your “therapy bun” I will be happy to arrange the ticket. I suspect we would have to put the miles in my account and then I could get your ticket. Or if you have a United Mileage Plus even better. So if anyone has United miles or miles that can be used on United we may be able to pull this off!
Sorry Missouri! Hey, and you couldn’t take off to Europe!
I have United Miles too although I don’t think my balance it at 5,000 though.
I just don’t know the increments you can give – maybe 2,500 or maybe any amount. I’ll check into that.
Update: I just checked into transferring miles. A member can only receive a maximum of 15,000 miles of transferred miles and they must be in increments of 5,000. So ideally if Markusdark had at least 10,000 miles then 3 of us could transfer 5,000 to his account. Now I am sure you can probably get a free ticket if someone was willing to use 25,000 miles and put it in his name. That’s different than actually transferring miles.
Ah, I see.
hmm.. what are miles? u mean like paying money to the air company? damn i hate being british i dont get anything *cries*
Thanks for the info. Let me check things out with both Leaf and SAB and we’ll see what is up.
Kimberlyand Darren, if you fly a certain airline you can accumulate frequent flier miles, the more miles you have you can often book a “free” flight. You go to almost any airlines web site and sign up to be a member, most of the time membership is free. British Airways has an “Executive Club” http://www.britishairways.com/travel/echome/public/en_gb?source=TOP_echome ![]()
