My Family and I are SO sad! We are going to have to re-home August and Buster… My Little girl is having such a hard time with allergies, coughing, breathing problems… We have had them almost a year now and it seems she is just now reacting to them… We had her allergies tested and she barely reacted to Rabbit… The doc said that the reason it showed up so small is because it was just showing that she had contact with Rabbits… Buster is STILL shedding HORRIBLY! If any of you remember my previous posts about how horrible he has been shedding now going on 5 1/2 months… Fur EVERYWHERE!!! I mean everywhere… We vaccum constantly! We are always dusting and vaccuming…Fur just floats around the room… It seems that she starts coughing and have asthma attacks when their litterboxes are needing to be changed… We change the boxes and her symptoms seem to subside… We don’t know what else to do but give them away… She gets SOOO sick! She also has horrible eczema… She scratches till she bleeds… She is on all kinds of meds and nothing helps but steroids…

We are going to miss them, Terribly, although both Bunnies have become so reclusive… Buster was such a loving, playful, rambunctious bunny who always wanted to be petted and would stick his head out of his cage for kisses and pets but now he just sleeps all the time and and hides in the corner of his condo when we come close… He doesn’t want to have nothing to do with us… We open his cage and he sits there when he would literally jump over us to get out… He did learn to open his cage… We thought our son was opening his cage at night and leaving it open… We had a litlle padlock on his cage and we left the keys in it… He was grabbing it with his teeth and pulling the lock to face in his cage and he would turn the keys and unlock the lock… We would find the keys inside his cage… It was crazy!

Anyway, I just wanted to let you guys know! We are just heartbroken!

        Donnie

This is sad You’ve done a lot for the boys. I’m confused, if she’s reacting severely to them now, wouldn’t that reaction show in the test – even though she’s been exposed to them for some time? How do they test “Rabbit” Some people are allergic to specific types of rabbits. Also, they can test exactly what it is. Fur, dander, saliva. Even urine. I’m sure I’ve read of that and since she reacts most when litter boxes are soiled, maybe that’s worth investigating more. It’s an awful situation to be in but if her symptoms make her miserable – of course you have to take this step. I just wish (as you likely do) that you had a less heartbreaking solution. Have you been able to find a suitable home they could go to?

Will you update us once you’ve found a place for them to go? I wish there was more I could offer to help.

Allergies are so miserable because it’s so hard to get relief from them when it’s in your environment. I had a bad allergy to some scented stuff at work yesterday, and it’s hard to convince people who are not bothered by it that, yes, you really do need to remove it right away or you will suffer.

I am also surprised by the dr.’s statement that it’s mild to the bunny, considering the symptoms your daughter has, but I do know that allergies are often a combination of things that push you over a threshold. Don’t be surprised if, after the bunnies are gone, she still has some allergies since it may be the combination of hay, litter, dust, fur, AND house dust or trees or some foods that are factoring in. Allergies also come on at any age.

You will miss them terribly, but you are taking care of your child and them – I’m sure you will find them a loving home. I think Sarita is in or near Dallas. Maybe she can help you get them to a good foster or rescue to rehome them.
