I’m sure you are tired of me saying this… haha! But I just really enjoy my bunnies!

For the longest time, I stayed away from bunnies because I was so traumatized from my childhood. The rabbits we had were not pets and that completely screwed me up growing up and as an adult. Nightmares over nightmares so I thought if I stayed away from rabbits, it would eventually stop.

And then, very unexpectedly, along came Velvet, in desperate need of a foster home where she could relax and be herself. Make two out of one and now we have two rabbits here (of course we couldn’t let Velvet live a life in solitude) and life is wonderful!

We were talking the other day… if we ever have kids… they might be playing with these rabbits! We don’t know how old exactly Velvet or Dancer are but they are both middle-aged rabbits. She is older than he is. Her little feet curl a little, she has old lady feet but is very agile and too active to be an old rabbit.

We are not used to having our kids stay with us for so long. We are owned by rats, many rats. We take in those who are impossible or hard to place or those who are sick or too old to be placed. Sometimes, they stay with us for 3 months, sometimes, they stay with us for three years! We never know. A rat’s life expectancy is not very high compared to the one of rabbits, but truly, it’s the quality of life they get here. We try to give them paradise on earth here because their lives had not been pretty before they came here. With the rabbits, since they live longer, it dawned on us the other day how nice it is to have them so long – though any day can be the last day with them, too. This, I realized last week when Velvet was so sick and I thought we were going to lose her. My god, I was so scared, I was absolutely beside myself at work, while she was at the vet’s. With rats, you take life day by day. You cherish each day as a very precious moment in life. Ever since last Friday, when Vevety was so sick, we do the same with the bunnies now though we could potentially have … 10 more years with them! That thought is just fantastic!!! If we have human kids, they could get to know Velvet and Dancer!!! I love that thought!!!

Just rambling about how nice life is, I guess…

It is nice to have bunnies.  Getting to appreciate their personalities and antics everyday. Sometimes I watch animal cops and see how lucky the pets are that have caring owners and good homes. True we forget sometimes the good stuff. Especially after watching that or seeing how many bunnies in shelters needs homes. Permanent good homes.

OH the friend I had that had the bunnies and ate the real nice Dutch rabbit I had given thrm. Well they no longer have rabbits. Phew. Thats a relief. They weren’t well cared for.
