I haven’t been on in a long time because everything’s been going great with Atti and with school and trying to keep a social life, I don’t usually spend a lot of time on the internet anymore.  But tonight’s a free night for myself, so I was up in my room working on trying to clean/organize. It’s been a two week adventure so far since I’m off and on cleaning.  But anyways, onto the bunny questions!!

Since I decided to organize my room, I decided that Atti’s area wasn’t using the space efficiently, so I moved his cage completely and increased his area by a hhuuggee amount! I was actually amazed by the amount of floor that he has now just from moving the cage and making the fence go straight to the wall!  But Okay, My question for real now!!!
Do Bunnies Like Having A Lot Of OPEN Floor Space, Or Do They Like To Have a Desk And Dressers To Run Around/Behind?
Because of the organization, I had to move some things into his area, so now there’s a desk and I moved the storage things over on the other side, so I don’t know if I should throw out my desk (It’s old and I only want it because it has a little sentimental value to me… oh, and I’m a hoarder)

Another thing I was wondering about was that I’ve always read about Bunny Condos, but I don’t have NIQ Cubes (idk if that’s the right name) and I wasn’t planning on spending anymore money til after Christmas on things unless they’re essential for Atti’s survival… But for the “Condo” can it just be a dog cage??  That’s what I use now, but it’s never closed, so Atti doesn’t have a bedtime or anything.
Do bunnies need to be kept in the cage/condo at night??  Atti pretty much sleeps out in his “area” and I rarely see him sleeping in the cage.

Also, when Charlie, my kitten is in my room, all he does is hang out with Atticus, stalking him and jumping on him and trying to play, but I don’t know if Atti likes it or not.  Is there any way to tell??  He doesn’t thump at Charlie, and just runs if Charlie startles him, but then he goes right back to eating or w.e he wants to do while Charles continues to bombard him with kitten love.

Last thing, I promise, for Christmas I told my mom I want a portable pen/cage thing so I can take Atti anywhere in the house, but I’m not sure if it would be a good item to get.  I’m sure it would be lovely to make additional space to his “area” but I would love to be able to take him onto the main floor while I’m there, so he can be supervised! (He can’t be down here because I don’t have a real place to keep him, and my mom WONT let me block off “bunny areas” anywhere but in my room.)
So should I go for the Bunny Pen?  The one I saw on PetSmart’s site was like 80 dollars.

I’m also asking for a Dyson! But I doubt I’ll get one

So good to hear things are going well with your Atti – beautiful bun! I’m thinking having a desk in his area would not bother him. The bunnies seem to like to go under ‘shelter’ plus it’s probably a bit dimmer under there, so he might like it as a quiet, safe spot. My only concern is if he gnaws on the legs if it is sentimental to you! Guess it would just add character

Sounds like he has everything he needs for his space, plus a friend in Charlie. He seems to be co-existing ok but just be around when there together because he could lash out at Charlie. Sometimes when they not well they can behave differently. The condos are convenient if your space is limited because you can build upwards and the bunny can get exercise vertically so to speak. If a cage works for you, he doesn’t need a condo. Besides, the pens are easier to clean!   If you’ve bunny proofed your room thoroughly, theres no reason to shut him in.
          Nice to hear from you!

Buttercup and Bandit stay out all night, three to five nights a week, and it has been working fine. Try no bunny condo for a night. You may find you like it!

My rabbits like both “den” like spaces under a desk and some free area.  But when they are just chilling- they tend to lay under something den like- the desk, bird cage, kitchen table, etc.  I have other pets though- dogs and cats- and that might be a reason why they like to be out of the way- but I also think it is a natural behavior for them.  So in my opinion they like both, but they do seem to appreciate a nice quiet den for some flops and a snooze after all the open area exploring, binkying and Bunny 500’s.

you’ve got to be careful with dressers and desks if there are plugged in things on them, the cords would have to be bun-proofed. it they’re just sitting there tho, i think he might like to have a dark place to hang out. like Katnip said, mine like both. anything that’s in his space will have the risk of getting chewed, so as long as it’s something you wouldn’t mind a few bunny marks in, i think it should be fine. how much actual open floor space is there? if he has a whole room to play in that’s thoroughly bunny-proofed, i would not worry about doing a condo if he has plenty of outside-cage play time. the condo would just subtract form his space and probably not make that big of a difference. the dog crate should be fine for a bunny only retreat.

                  Thanks guys!
I wouldn’t mind if he chewed on the desk, it’s really old and has chips and scratches and stickers and just everything going against it. lol

My room isn’t bunny proofed YET. I’m a cluttered person, and I hate throwing things away, so my room right now is just stuff thrown on collapsable plastic shelves and all over the floor. It’s not safe for Atti or for my things for him to be allowed to roam the entire room. But he has a major portion of it for himself, where I don’t use the outlets and everythings’s dandy for him.

Hopefully when I get my cleaning/organizing finished (sometime over Christmas break) I’ll be able to give him more room.

Oh, and with the cats, for three nights I left my room open so they could interact with eachother, and Atti’s behavior didn’t change, and he wasn’t thumping, so do you think it’s safe to continue allowing my cats to interact with him? (the only time the door’s open is when I’m in the room)
I did this a while ago, and now only Charlie is allowed to be in the room with me, but my boys sit at my door crying to get in.

i like having my buns free-range during b/c it does make you be neat and at least pick up after yourself… hopefully once you’re organized and everything is cleaned up you’ll be able to fully proof and he’ll be one HAPPY bun-bun!

hah yeah. I moved my drumset (my brother didn’t want it anymore so I took it) and gave atti an entire new area behind the bed! He loves it back there, and I get really scared when I go into my room and he’s not right in view (I’ll forget he’s able to be back there). I have to be like “atti?…” and he comes out from the bed!
I hate the feeling of “ugh oh, did he get out?” hehe, he did it once, but that’s because I had just moved my room around and forgot that he was able to move boxes! I woke up to see him laying under my television.

I went to buy salad today and they had dandelion greens! The price said 1.99 but it only cost 1.31! hah! I had to go to Giant Eagle for the salad cuz the cheap place only takes cash and it’s like a 10 min drive vs 3.
Atti’s gonna be excited when I finish packing his salads!

Not bunny related but you know what helps me de-clutter? Having someone over, usually my mom, for an evening of wine and cleaning/organzing. She comes about every six months to help re-organize me! Maybe you have someone that could come help-it helps you stay focuesed and on task, and if its someone like my mom, help talk you into throwing things out!
