Gah, I’m so pissed off right now.
I take verbatim laptop notes in all my classes, which takes a lot of time and attention, and my notes are incredible. A guy in my Mythology class emailed the entire class saying his laptop had crashed due to virus and he lost his notes. I decided to be nice, and I sent him my notes (over 15 classes’ worth). As always, when sending notes most people know not to redistribute them.
Not a day later the same guy sends an email to the entire class saying “Since others may need them, here are class notes!” – with MY NOTES.
So now 300 people have access to something I usually charge to sell!!!
Gah, !! I emailed him back and said “Are these MY notes? I did not give you permission to redistribute them as I usually charge for my notes and was doing you a favor.”
He emailed back apologizing profusely but the damage has been done.
Gah. Grr. Argh…!!!
Ohh that’s so annoying!!
I know lots of people who’d lent their notes to someone, only to *never* see them again!! So on the bright side, at least you still have your notes!! *hugs* You could maybe report him to the school?
ohh poor you!
doesnt it suck when things like this happen especially when u are just trying to be nice? it makes u feel like pfft why should i bother? if i was just an arsehole i would be much better off..
sorry for u hun (((vibes)))
That really sucks! I hope you gave him a piece of your mind! That actually happened to my son in high school. He had put together an incredible study guide for Chemistry and it was circulated to everyone. He was not too happy!
i’ve never thought of selling notes… wow. i guess it’s not unethical… not like you’re distributing tests or helping cheat. i’m sorry that happened. unreal.
I never thought of selling notes either Beka – that would never have occurred to me. I guess there are people who skip classes and buy notes – a good way to make money if you are a good student who goes to class I bet.
I’m sure this guy had to have known better than to share your notes too! I would have wanted to slap him.
besides, even if you *idn’t* sell them… it’s still your work. you were there, you took the time, you were responsible emough to go to class and make sure your notes were precise.
300 people in class! Wow, that’s huge too – how did he get everyone’s email.
you should send him a bill for your regular fees X how many others he distributed it to. he should have known better. even if he wasn’t aware you were selling them (which i’d find hard to believe anyways). how frustrating! i put disclaimers on all of my plans so that they cannot be distributed… maybe when you sell / send your notes via email you can add a disclaimer stating that the notes are not for distribution without your written permission.
Not to play devil’s advocate here but when you sent him the notes, did you tell him not to redistribute them? It does suck if that’s how you usually make money though.
Hahah yes you should totally “bill” him!! Good idea bbm!!
…or you could quietly go to the professor of your Mythology class and ask him for advice on this surprising situation, and explain what happened. As an experienced teacher, what would he recommend you do? (It’s passive aggressive, I know, but it gets the whole truth out there to the one person who should know.) It might not be helpful to mention that you usually sell your notes.
I’d like to see you send this guy a bill just to see the look on his face. Do a little research on copyright permission, in case you can scare him while you’re at it. (Ooh, I’m in a crabby mood today, but nobody messes with Binky Bunny Buddies!)
Well, the guy emailed back COMPLETELY backpedaling and saying that he used someone else’s notes; but I know my notes and he copied mine. He used several people (and told me several people have emailed him) so he’s in )*#($. He’s trying to get out of paying me, but I am not going to back down.
All right, this guy sent me an email completely backpedaling and saying he did not use my notes at all, (after sending another email saying mine were the best). He said he will not compensate me as he ‘did not use my notes.’
BULL @((#@.
So, I’ve emailed my professor asking his advice on this matter, because I’m pretty sure it’s plagarism what he’s done.
Gah, I’m so POed…
On a better note – my job interview went really well this morning!
Good. If you can, print out all of his emails from when he asked everyone to help him out, your replies, and just clip them together and put it away. If it is more serious than you think, according to the professor (sometimes plagarism is hard on a student and leads to failing grades) you don’t want to have a “he said, she said” situation. You were just trying to help out. Guys like him grow up to be the guy in the office who steals someone else’s good idea and claims that too. Grrrrrrrr!!!
Speaking of interviews, what was the job? I don’t remember reading details on that. Glad to hear the interview went really well.
Been meaning to tell you while I’m writing to you here, that I was impressed with your set up for the 6 buns. Unnecessary apologies for the mess aside, (and you had a big broom in the video LOL) I thought the cages lined up were very neat and well placed. It made so much sense that Kibou could just hop around saying Hi to each one, and they all can see each other. Really nice.
Aww, thanks Pam ((hugs)). I should clean up a bit better and take some pics to show you guys! It is kinda impressive I guess, when I stand back and look at it
I’m supposed to have some people come get a free couch from me tonight so they’re probably going to be like O.o rabbit lady…!
The job is at an office supplies store, 40 hours a week, M-F 12-9… (gonna be hard on the pup, but…we’ll see). It’s good money and it would pay for my mortgage and bills and give me a bit left over, which is excellent, so…I am hopeful…!
