And relieved! We FINALLY set up a spay appointment for Boston. I can’t wait till the vet sees her, cuz he didn’t think that she would make it, whehn she was sick, let alone ever need to get spayed!

I think I asked all the right questions, and the receptionist was wonderful and nice and knew what she was talking about and was very patient with all my questions.

This vet does spays for the Humane Society in Minnesota and she doesn’t ever remember losing a rabbit or having any problems. Told me to keep keeping and watering Boston till the spay. She also gave me the list of anesthetics they use and told me why they use them!

Only thing I wasn’t sure of-she said they don’t always remove both overies and uterus–is that normal? Should they?

They keep the buns overnight there and the doc comes back to check on them. If they notice any problems during the day, the doc or a tech will take her home with them.

I just feels so relieved! Can’t wait to get it over with!!

That’s awesome!! I’m so glad Bostons healthy again and it’s exciting shes going to get spayed and have a long happy life-it was so scary when she got sick! You’re vet sounds great!

I believe some vets remove the ovaries and some remove the whole thing. I’m sure you can make your wishes known when you bring her in…I would think they would only remove ovaries if they think it would be easier on the animal then a whole hysterectomy…But you can of course bring that up when you go in and see why/what they’ll do

YAY!!! i’m so happy for you, first that she’s healthy and second that you’ve got it set up and ready to go!

i believe you want the vet to remove the whole kit’n’kaboodle… if they leave behind the uterus, i don’t think that fully eliminates the risk of reproductive cancer.

edited:  here is the HRS FAQ on spay/neuter… look under questions you should ask the vet… it says that they should remove both the ovaries and uterus…  http://www.rabbit.org/faq/sections/spay-neuter.html

Go Boston Girl!  I too wonder what situations that they only remove the ovaries vs all????  I agree w/ what was stated…remove the kit and the kaboodle.

                Good Luck!

I will keep dear Boston in my prayers that she recovers from surgery quickly, although I have no doubt that she will. ^_^ She’s such a strong girl!

I would also bring up the point of why wouldn’t they remove the everything? I am also wondering if that wouldn’t put her at cancer risk. Maybe your vet would have an explanation. I just am used to vets taking it all.
