Magnus has been rather sneezy since he was staying at Andrew’s parents’ house over Christmas break.  We didn’t think much of it, thinking he may have just been allergic or irritated by new smells, different dust, dander, etc. But now he has been back home for a week and he is still sneezing.  He sneezes once every couple of minutes most of the time.  Is this normal? Could it be harmless or could he be sick?

        Thanks,
        Andrew & Winter

If they are continuously sneezing (as it sounds by sneezing every couple of minutes) then he should go to the vet. If he gets a sneezing bout once or twice a day, I wouldn’t worry about it.

I would highly recommend taking Magnus into the vet for sneezing.  After losing Leia to post-op complications, it would be a good idea to have Magnus checked out by a vet with this information in mind.

I triple ditto. It is not normal for there to be so much sneezing.( Keep us updated about what the vet says.

Is there any discharge when Magnus sneezes? I think that whether there is or not, it sounds like quite a lot of sneezing, but usually when my bunnies have a sickness they also get discharge with the sneezing. Generally, as a first step my vet puts my bunny on Baytril which is an oral medication, if they do that, see if your vet can compound the Baytril with a berry or banana flavor, mine take it better that way

Moobunnay – great reminder about the flavoring. I have to say that really makes it easier as Baytril is just so awful! It smells like rubbing alcohol, I can just imagine how it tastes.

                    Hey all,
We took Magnus to the vet today and he prescribed us Endotroxacin (sp?), but holding Magnus without him struggling for dear life for long enough to administer it to him is proving impossible.  Our next idea is to cover his favorite foods in it and see how that goes.  Any suggestions?

Is it in liquid form, powder, pill?

It’s a liquid. We’ve been sneaking it into his treats all week, measuring it carefully and making sure he eats it all of course. The sneezing hasn’t stopped though, if anything sometimes it seems a little worse because he’ll sneeze a bunch of times in sequence. We’re calling the vet back tomorrow, but Magnus seemed rather completely traumatized by the last trip so we’re going to try not to have to take him back there. Maybe it’s some kind of allergies?

How long has he been on the antibiotic and how long is he supposed to be on it for? I know that my vet gives a 2 week minimum, many times, depending on situation will go up to three weeks. Sometimes Rucy will respond right away, and other times it takes her about a week.

With Rucy, I let her smell a raisin, then I give her the meds, then I give her a raisin. She will struggle only for a second or two, but then once she has had her meds, she looks quickly around for the raisin as if to say…okay human, I hate you for what you’ve done, and where is my raisin?!

I’ve never heard of a rabbit having allergies so I wouldn’t think it’s that. I’d call the vet like your planning to do, but did your vet run any tests? It sounds like it might be pasturella.
