i was in the bunny aisle at petco the other day and i saw a bottle that claimed to reduce the bunny urine scent. if you mix some in their water.. is anyone familiar with this product? and if so is it safe/does is work?

I have seen it but am not real sure about its safety. We’ve had a few discussions on this in the past and I can offer you my personal opinion that I would not recommend it. I really do not like the idea of giving something to a rabbit that there really isn’t a whole lot of substantial information on and their digestive system is so sensitive I hate to experiment with anything. Sometimes the type of litter you use and the types of veggies you feed will make a bunny smell more, and even I’ve had this same problem. What I did was switch to wood stove pellets/Feline Pine and have no more problems with odor and I notice that when I feed my two things like kale and cilantro, the litterbox used to be really, really bad smelling. Can I ask what kind of litter you use and what veggies you feed?

also, is it an immediate smel upon coming outl, or a cumulative smell from not being changed frequently enough? i have determined the longest i can possibly go without changing their litterbox (4 days- they have two litterboxes for two bonded buns), so i try to change them at least a day earlier than that. i do it every 2-3 days. the only smell i notice is when i turn the litter out into a garbage bag. it disturbs the litter obviously, and it causes some pee smell to waft up. it’s unpleasant, but it’s gone just a few moments after i tie up the bag and take it out…

I bought it a couple of years ago, when I was new to buns and tried it; My vet said it was safe and I didn’t see any problems when using it; But it doesn’t really work at all, so I just tossed it out.

I find the best way to keep the smell is to use a really good litter, like carefresh or yesterdays news and change more frequently Also maybe their is a hidden pee spot somewhere that may be smelling? We found one under a chair when we did a thurough clean over the holidays

I heard there was a pellet for that too.  Never used it though.

well ive always used carefresh and it seems pretty absorbent. i usually bring Tuna romaine/cilantro/parsley from work .. i have one bunny currently but will be picking up my new baby girl on the 12th(wish me luck!) i already have a 2nd litterbox designated for her and i dont usually go mor ethan three days without changing tuna’s litter. to be honest i dont even notice the smell of his urine…. its my boyfriend that was wondering and i agree that trying the bottled formula isnt worth risking the health of my bun/future bun. thanks a lot for all of the helpful info
