A few days ago, I noticed a small bump on Ms. Rabbit’s ear. It was small – about the size of a very small pea – and slightly red. It’s near the base of her ear on the inside, at the tip of that little ridge they have on the side of the ear. She had a little infected bump near there that looked similar a long time ago, after a minor bite wound, so I wasn’t too concerned.

The little bump is still there. I think it got a little bigger, but I’m not certain. It’s much more red today and a little harder. It doesn’t seem to be bothering her. Last night, I noticed that the tip of her nose looked a little funny. I discovered that she has another little bump on the very tip of her nose. It’s about half the size of the other one and has a slightly yellowish/whitish color under the skin. She lost a bit of fur on her nose over the bump. It seems a little bit red like the other bump today and seems a tiny bit bigger.

Any thoughts on what this could be? I haven’t given them any new toys or foods lately. Mr. Bunny doesn’t seem to have any bumps. I was thinking that it could be bug bites, considering we’ve been having fairly warm weather lately and I’ve been seeing some insects. I’ll try to take a few pics if they’re needed. Thanks for your help!

          Are they like warts?
Has she been in good health otherwise?

This thread came up on the forums several months ago.

They don’t really look like anything in the pictures in that thread. They look more like little swollen mosquito bites on a human than anything, except they’re hard and only slightly raised up. Yes, she’s in good health otherwise (as far as I know). If it helps, she’s about 3 years old, spayed, and never goes outside.

Alright, here’s some photos. For scale, her ears are approximately 3 inches long. Here’s a close up of her ear:

The one on her nose is harder to see. If you look closely, you can see that one side looks bigger than the other.

If you think possibly an insect bite, you could try put some ice in the one on her ear to see if it reduces inflammation. If it does, likely it is a bite.

I put ice on the one on her ear for a few minutes, and the swelling/redness did go down noticeably. She wouldn’t let me put ice on her nose.  She seemed a lot happier after I was done. If it’s bug bites, I assume they’ll go away on their own?

Bailey used to get some harmless bumps on (forgot what they were called) that looked similar to that. Vivian has a couple of little warts on her ears but they are small and don’t look that. The only thing though about the bump that Bailey had is it didn’t just happen over a few days, it was something that happened over month or so. Also, it never was on her nose – though some similar would be on her back. So maybe it is a bug bite.

Has she been around any other bunnies lately?

                        Hi Pandora,

This is a very old thread from last year… Because of this the Forum leaders may lock it up…. It gets very confusing when old threads start up again…
If you go into forums you can start a new thread. It’s very easy and you are more likely to get a greater volume of responses to your query…
