Oakley slips when jumping off step stool – ideas ? I can’t remove it as it’s his hideaway – I brought it after suggestions here as he was peeing on wooden ones and plastic ones in stores are tiny

Trying to think of something plastic I can buy to be a ramp or stairs … and will most use the easy way down if their is one? Or is he still likely to jump? His back legs slip off it when he jumps and I just worry it might make him land funny

Is the top blue part not grippy? Or does he push himself off from the white part on the front? You can buy grip tape, like the stuff used for stair tread, it’s basically heavy duty tape with grit in it, there’s a rubbery kind and a sandpapery kind. I have some in my cage at the top level by the stairs, as long as it’s put on very well Oakely shouldn’t be able to chew it off. Mine is on the flat floor so that may have something to do with it, but in a couple of years I’ve never had issues.

I bought mine from a hardware store.

The blue part has grip but he gears himself up on the edge ready for take off and dies a little bum wiggle then jumps and back feet splay at back ( even though back feet still on the blue!)

i would look for a textured spray paint, or spray-on-non-skid from a box store like Walmart, or a hardware store. Since the step is plastic, it would need a plastic primer paint, and you would want to rough it up with sand paper beore spraying the primer. Let it dry outside for the fumes to dissipate. If it was wood – I’d have stapled non-skid on. Non-skid is available in box stores, hardware stores, and home stores like lowes and home depot – it comes in small strips for stairs.

I just brought a lower step stool to sit next to this one , so he should be able to get down easier without a “take off” as such… will try that first and if it’s not fixing the jumping off I’ll have to remove it I guess and start looking again for a new hideaway – wouldn’t really trust the sprays incase

Yeah – there is nothing nice about paint… I woudl use paint myself only if it was proprely entedbefore giing it to the bun, and it was not on something the bunny woudl chew or lick. But… I’m sure there are other options. I used textured paint on surfaces my dogs need grip on,and it worked out well. For my bunnies with wooden ramps, I use carpet or non-skid. If you have seen the Pawhut brand small critter hide-outs, they use non-skid on the roofs, But then you have to either use glue or staples. I used staples. Another thing you could try – is rough up the smooth plastic with sand paper and leave it as is. I might also scour it with a sharp knife. It wouldn’t look pretty, but it would add non-toxic texture for grip.

I just tried the sandpaper and it was better but not enough I trust it… I’m going to go for a hunt for a new step stool as a hideaway ( we don’t have the selection you guys do – I’ve never even heard of the ones you named – in nz our hideaways are only guinea pig size in stores except for one castle shaped one which is def big enough but takes to much space in his hutch – I put it in his pen instead but want one for his cage too

I just used a small bathroom carpet with the sticky type bottom on my one platform, so my bunny won’t slip and it fits perfect!

You could also put stick on velcro on the step stool, and then attach the other velcro to a piece or fleece or something and attach it to the stool that way.

Fixed it finally! The lounging logs folded over it do the job

Very good So long as he doesn’t sit right at the edge and tip them off, though I imagine he may not be heavy enough for that.

He is so light they don’t move at all will watch for it as he grows and I can tie with paper twine the cage bars to the metal that runs through the logs that keep them together if needed – that will def stop them slipping once he is heavier

PERFECT !! Well done – being a bunny owner, we often have to think COMPLETELY ‘out of the box’ to find solutions… it’s good for the neurones !!

Awesome! Something else I just thought of is the sticky bathtub designs. I remember sticking non-stick flower patterns on the bathtub when I was younger. But I`m glad you found solution.
