hey all. i got two brother bunnies from a shelter yesterday and i noticed one breathes sharply and sounds kind of like he’s wheezing when he’s laying down. and when he goes to lay down he makes this snort noise. like his nose is stuffed up. is this normal or should i call the shelter? the other bunny is completely fine and makes no noises when he’s laying

          Thank you for adopting ?
I think you could call the shelter and ask when he was last checked by a vet. He could have a respiratory infection an need antibiotics. It’s best to have it checked out, because just as with humans, an upper respiratory infection can progress to the lungs or ears if not treated. If caught early, the prognosis is excellent.

The other bun could be a carrier of the same bacteria and still not be sick. The bacteria that most commonly cause upper respiratory infections in buns are very common among rabbits, but if the rabbit’s immune defense is strong, the bacteria can be kept in check. So only some buns get sick, it’s not quite understood why.

Is he eating and drinking and pooping like he should?
